Super Guitar Trio brings together three legends of jazz guitar: Larry Coryell, Al Di Meola & Biréli Lagrène. These three virtuoso musicians have collaborated at various times in their career, but this concert from 1989 comes from the only tour they have done together as a trio. They perform a mixture of tracks from each of their solo repertoire plus special arrangements of some of their favorite tracks by other artists. For jazz musicians, playing at Montreux is always a highlight and the three guitarists are clearly inspired by playing together in the unique Montreux atmosphere. Tracklisting: 1) PSP No.II 2) Tango Suite (for two guitars) 3) Orient Blue Suite / Traces Of A Tear 4) Musette De Paris Avec La Rue Dupierre No.5 5) Waltz 6) Braziliance 7) No Mystery 8) Spain

A super trio by any standard
If you like acoustic guitar jazz fusion music, this DVD is a must. Though the recording is almost three decades old and lacks the sound and video quality of a modern Blu-Ray, it's still good enough - and the important thing is the music itself, which is excellent.Opinions will vary on which of the three guitarists is the 'best', but all three are undeniably great in terms of both their artistry and technical chops (even in this elite group, I think Dimeola may have the edge on chops).Guitar has continued to evolve, but this performance is up there with anything people are doing today with the instrument. Highly recommended.

If you like prog jazz guitar you will want this dvd.
Incredible guitar playing from 3 masters. I especially like Larry's 12 string work on one song. I don't know how anybody can remember so many notes, there's is some sheet music, but how do you play and read it at once? It's incredible to watch and hear!

Not quite super, but good enough
There are two DVDs available of this particular Super Guitar Trio, one from Cambridge, Mass, in 1990, and this one from Montreux in 1989. The Montreux is 10 minutes longer, but there's considerable overlap of tunes between the two. I own both, but it's really not necessary--one or the other will suffice. Take your pick. The two DVDs each provide very enjoyable listening, but are not essential items. The three guitarists' styles are so different, and yet they for the most part find ways not to clash or distract from one another.

Awesome
Superb concert, well filmed, lots of close-ups. Not quite enough of Bireli, but that was the show, absolutely superb. Good length at 91 mins, shows how acoustic guitar can be more exciting than electric, even for rock fans. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Excellent musicianship
I always liked Django Heinhart and the Hot Club de France. Birelli reminded me very much of Django. As an ex musician I was always envious of the ease this guitar player was handling his instrument.Especially this DVD showed the astonishing interaction between these great guitar players without being in eachothers way, what you sometimes find with other musicians.
