Qube has been extremely responsive and has worked to fix their Legacy Type-C cable line and several weeks ago sent me a new replacement. I am testing this cable now!My test laptop today is a Chromebook Pixel (2015). I am using the following Dell 10W charger : Dell 10W Adapter Spare Wall Charger for Venue 8 Pro/8/7 (XDN34)For a debugging tool, I am using the Chromium team’s USB PD Sniffer, available here from plugable: Plugable USB 3.1 Type-C (USB-C) Power Delivery SnifferLet's check Pixel's command line :localhost ~ # ectool --name cros_pd usbpdpowerPort 0: SNK Charger DCP 5065mV / 500mA, max 5000mV / 2000mA / 10000mWPort 1: SRCRight now it's only drawing 500mA, but Pixel's battery is full, so this is expected. This is a good sign. It has correctly identified that the charger is a DCP device and NOT a Type-C charger.Let’s check the USB PD Sniffer :> tw vbusVBUS = 5051 mV ; -466 mA> tw ccCC1 = 4 mV ; CC2 = 428 mVThis also looks good! The voltage on CC2 is 428mV. Referring to the USB Type-C Specification Table 4-25 Voltage on Sink CC pins, this voltage falls right in the middle of the range allowed for vRd-USB, meaning that yes, this cable has the correct 56kΩ pullup resistor! I have also tested USB SuperSpeed with Pixel C, which supports USB 3.1. I tested MTP large file transfer between Pixel C and a Dell XPS 12 Windows laptop (picture attached). The Qube cable handled the SuperSpeed data connection perfectly. Because this supports SuperSpeed, this cable will also support MacBook users who want to use Target Disk Mode, which requires a SuperSpeed cable.In conclusion, Qube has done a great job fixing their cables, and they really have excellent customer service. Their new cables are great for charging your new Nexus, Pixel, or other Type-C device, as well as SuperSpeed USB3.1 for data transfers. To find the specification, please go to usb.org, and look under developers/usbtypec.Specifically, using this charging cable, the Chromebook Pixel will attempt to draw 3A of current over the cable, potentially damaging the USB hub or charger on the A side, which is not guaranteed to be rated at 3A.Please see Section 4.11 and the following note :1. For Rp when implemented in the USB Type-C plug on a USB Type-C to USB 3.1 Standard-A CableAssembly, a USB Type-C to USB 2.0 Standard-A Cable Assembly, a USB Type-C to USB 2.0 Micro-BReceptacle Adapter Assembly or a USB Type-C captive cable connected to a USB host, a value of 56 k± 5% shall be used, in order to provide tolerance to IR drop on V BUS and GND in the cable assembly.In other words, since you are creating a USB Type-C plug to a USB 3.1 Type-A Plug assembly, you must use a resistor of value 56k as a pull-up on CC (configuration channel).
