Great Clock, Works as Advertised
Before I bought this clock, I read all the reviews here on Amazon several times. I hesitated, but still bought it. After using this clock for several clocks with my 2 year old, I wanted to come on here and address some of the negative stuff that people had mentioned in past reviews.1) "It ticks loudly". If you have a child who is very very sensitive to noise, whom you always kept the room dead quiet for, yes, they will have problems with this. Remember all those old clocks when we were kids, like the Mickey Mouse one? It sounds like that. It's not that bad. Our son had 0 problems with the ticking (but we've never kept everything 100% quiet for him, so he's used to a little noise).2) "The back part is annoying and you have to take it off every night to set the alarm." Do you guys even realize why the back part is there? It's so the kids can't press all the buttons on the back of the clock. It's extremely easy to twist off (one twist, it's off), and extremely easy to put back on. We had it off for the first week, and started putting it back on when we realized our son would reset the clock, turn the volume up, basically press the buttons. They're kids, give them buttons, they'll push them. Also I'm not sure why people are complaining you have to set the alarm every night. You push 1 button to put the monkey to sleep, and it will wake up again at the time you had set previously. How else would you get the monkey's eyes to close?3) "It's 24 hour time". Most of the world is on 24 hour time. It's very easy to figure out how this works if you have trouble, and not that hard to add or subtract 12. In fact, 2 year olds can't tell time anyways, so it's a non-issue for them, and if I'm still using this clock when he can start telling time, it's a great learning tool.4) "It doesn't work with my son". Well that's not the clock's fault.5) "It's hard to set up, the instructions are bad." You guys must have bought a different clock than I did. It's very very easy to set up, and the instructions made complete sense. My son gets very excited with this clock. He'll exclaim "monkey awake" when we walk into his room in the morning, and in the evenings, he'll say "monkey sleeping" at night. We honestly haven't needed to use it yet if he wakes up earlier than the monkey, but he really likes the clock, and it works as it says it does. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again or recommend it for a friend.

Great clock, good features, bad reviews are mostly for the kids
We've had this clock for about 1.5 years. I just had to buy a second one because MoMo got lost in our move. My daughter was 2.5 when we got it. I explained to her the concept that when the monkey is asleep, that means it's still night time. She didn't have to be asleep, but she had to stay in her room until the Monkey woke up (she was coming down at 3:45/4am when the sun started coming up in the Summer). It took a few times, but after a few days she'd bring MoMo down at 7:15 smiling and saying "the monkey's awake!". When I'd put her to bed, I'd set the alarm (like I would have to do with my regular bedside alarm before I went to bed) and MoMos eyes would close. That meant quiet time/bedtime.The lack of a fifth star is for overall quality. It's not terribly durable, and there was something rattling around inside when we first got it, but then again clocks aren't really supposed to be dropped/thrown/rough housed with. But once she got a little too rough and the eyes got stuck. The digital display went wonky another time (batteries out for a bit, then fresh ones in fixed it) and the writing on the back is pretty hard to read unless you're in full light and have good eyes (the instructions help, but not when you're trying to change the alarm time before bed or something like that)Defective products should receive low stars, but I don't feel this is defective at all. As for low star ratings assigned to this clock because children 'figured out how to open the eyes' or other silliness like 'my child ignored MoMo', remember that stars are for the product itself. Not how well a child responds to it.Example: My daughter couldn't leave the nightlight button alone at first until MoMo stopped working because the batteries died. I don't dock the clock a star for that, but I make note of it in the review in case you have a button-pusher. Stock up on batteries.I can take the back off (it's a turn-catch style), set the clock, and lock that back on again in literally 1.5 seconds. If that is too much of a hassle for a parent to do "every night" I wonder if they also decided brushing teeth is too much of a hassle as well. My daughter also likes to help put MoMo to sleep, so yes she knows how to undo the back and set the alarm herself (well she did before we lost him in the move). The volume can be up or all the way off, so only MoMos eyes open. Yes there is a noise, but I don't think it's anything excessive. My daughter has always had a clock in her room so perhaps if a child has never had a clock/fan/humidifier/white noise something in his or her room the ticking/eyes opening may be problematic. But I had it in there with her baby sister and the baby didn't mind at all either (6 months to 14 months old)Overall the clock works perfectly and does what it says it should. It also helped my daughter understand that even though it may be light out, it's not morning time (or even though it's light out, it's bedtime, depending on the season).

Has great qualities, but needs improvement
I purchased this for my son when he was 2. He enjoyed the idea of putting his monkey to sleep at night and he understood that the monkey dictated when it was okay to get out of bed.Pros: the monkey is adorableit is easy to operatethe volume of the alarm is adjustable (sometimes you don't want them to wake up)the alarm is cute jungle soundsCons:the digital clock is only in 24 hr format. This WILL NOT help me to teach my son how to tell time.the motor that opens the monkey's eyes in the morning is a little loud. Sometimes that wakes him up even when the alarm is silenced

It is a nice idea and may work for some children just not ...
The batteries don't seem to last very long in this clock before they need replacing and my toddler learnt early on he could manually open or close the monkey's eyes which wasn't very helpful! It is a nice idea and may work for some children just not mine.
