Unique, Heart-Touching, & at times - Funny!
Very unique, funny, and yet heart-touching story. The Subs Club takes on the topic of Doms/Subs relationships and lifestyles with the potential abuse of power in a story told from the pov of a sub, David. David uses jokes, flippant remarks, and sarcasm to mask his pain and guilt over the loss of a friend who was accidentally killed while playing as a sub with a stranger at a club. David and his friends decide to start an online site where subs can feel safe to rate and review doms - a site called The Subs Club. While their intentions are good, they quickly lose control of the situation/site and chaos ensues.Meantime, David enters a relationship with an older dom who annoys him to death while seriously turning him on. As their relationship develops into something more, we are privy to the heart & soul of David as he learns to let go, trust, and take his punishment like a man. There are so many laugh out loud moments in this book. Some of the quotes are just hilarious. But at the same time, this is a very real, emotional read that was sincere and heartfelt. Beautifully written, the author calls attention to the serious subject matter in a unique, powerful story that is a Must Read.

Communication is key
The thing I loved most about the book was how real it was. The devastation the group felt after losing Hal, the unsure feelings Dave had about getting what he needed but being unable to ask for it, and the humanness of being unable to communicate with their partners. Being able to talk about what you want isn't fiction, but an everyday struggle for humans. I loved that J.A. was able to show how easy it is for things to get out of hand when you don't talk to your partner about what you want or need in a relationship. This is by far one of the best books I've read about BDSM.

Mixed feelings
I have mixed feelings about this one. For one part, David’s thought process was hilarious at times, but it could also get tiring and kind of annoying too. Our gentle giant Dom was cute and sweet, but I felt at times I needed more from him. The whole thing was just a battle between laughing, thinking some scenes were hot, and skimming some scenes because I felt they were dragging. Will I read the other books? Probably yes, but it gonna take some time and other books for me to do so.

Ron Swanson is your daddy
An incredibly bratty man hooks up with the second coming of Ron Swanson. They try to be kind to each other, they try to deal with the fall out of the death of a friend in the local scene, they try to make it work.I really enjoyed this book. It was funny, there was more going on in the protagonists' lives than this romance, and all of the characters were deeply drawn.

Interesting and emotional
I honestly don't really know how I feel, having finished this book. The issues that David and his friends were advocating are real and bring out some very intense emotions. But there were also things like how half of the characters were referred to by their Fet username that just felt a bit off and a bit surreal.I think that, overall, I enjoyed the story and I know that I will definitely continue on with the other Subs Club books. I felt a lot of emotions while reading this book, and I think that I just have to take some time proceeding them all.

An amazing read. Not the first book by J
An amazing read. Not the first book by J.A Rock and won’t be my last. This book blew me away…it had me rolling with laughter with tears streaming one minute and feeling so sad the next.It takes you on highs and lows as it not only explores the very real concerns subs must have in this life style, but also the joys and insecurity of new love.I can’t wait to read the next books in the series.

Best if re-read after books in series
(Edited after rereading book at end of series.)This book is a fairly light read and not a bad book in any way. It was a fun read but I kept getting caught up in the details - which I know may seem like a silly concern when reading fiction.Edited July 2017 to add - When I initially read the book, I did not appreciate it as much as I felt the entire concept of the series was not something that fell easily within the BDSM reality. Then, I read the other books and re-read the first book. Seeing the collection as a whole, the first book is more enjoyable and makes more sense. I can now better see these characters and how their story came to be. I initially gave the book a 3 star review when read at start of series. After rereading it at the end of the series, I feel like it is deserving of a 5 star review. Even though each book is technically a standalone, you get much more out of the series if read as a whole. It takes a few individual 3 or 4 star review quality books and moves the group as a whole closer to a 5 star review, if this makes sense.

Love it!
I felt like I was on the journey with David. JA Rock does an amazing job of creating a friendship of four distinct personalities and characters of depth.

Absolutely brilliant
Loved this book, every second of it. From David's angst and heartbreak over the death of a friend , to the complete and amazing bitch that he is. This story is funny , irreverent and talks about a side of the scene that needs discussion. Well done , I highly recommend it

Okay...
David decides to start a rating system to rate Doms as a way to prevent problems with people who don't respect other people's limits. At the same time, he meets someone who ends up agreeing to see him but only for a few sessions in order to push his own limits. There are some differing messages here, with how pushing limits can be okay & sometimes it isn't. Rating Doms is okay, but rating subs isn't... There are contradictions that are partly cleared up, but the story doesn't involve or interest the reader much (even the Dom is described as paunchy, so not quite attractive).

The Subs Club
This was such a different take on the bdsm genre. It really makes you think about the potentially dangerous side of kink with the “accidental death” mentioned and the fears/guilt that come with the death of a friend. I will be checking out the rest of the series

Everyone needs a D!!!
This is a good story about a group of men in the BDSM community and how the accidental death of their friend affects them, the way they play and their ongoing friendships and relationships. Even though there are a couple of hot BDSM and sex scenes I would still describe it as a light read. It's not really heavy on angst and it is also really funny. I loved D and David. I can't wait to see them in future books.
