Airbox Lights 450031 Macro Softbox (Black)

As a softbox, it does the job. There was no real convenient way to place diffusion gel on my small LED panels, so it definitely fills a need. Opening the package was a bit disappointing though because it looked and smelled like a 99 cent pool toy and a couple of strips of velcro. Now, I'm not necessarily calling it overpriced, because there are economic factors of product design and manufacturing on a very small scale (there are probably not a ton of these getting made and sold) I just wish I didn't have to pay so much for so little.Functionally, it is okay. I use the larger Sony-style batteries on the back of my LED panels and the velcro straps go right over the top of them, so it's a bit fiddly getting it attached. I use regular diffusion gels on the barndoors of my larger LED panels, and it seems like the setup time and diffusion quality is roughly the same. The thin vinyl tabs that attach to the velcro straps look precarious at best, but for all I know could hold up fine. There is a vinyl repair patch kit that comes with it in case it gets torn or punctured. I hope to not have to use this, but sort of expect that I will at some point.So far the pros outweigh the cons as I now have soft, even, portable battery powered variable color temp lighting.Update: So after a half dozen or so shoots the inevitable happened and one of those little vinyl tabs tore off. Bummer. Here's the good part though - I wrote the guy that makes these and sent him pictures of what happened and he sent me replacement units that have a new design that looks a ton better. The design looks much more integrated and the straps don't look like they are going to tear off with the new ones. Big improvement.

You need to inflate this like a beach ball to use it. Problem is, that by the time you get the stopper in the hole it deflates. Works OK, but I wouldn't buy it again

Awesome except they don't have the typically inflatable stopper so you have to be agile when sealing it up otherwise it deflates. Otherwise awesome for what it does and totally recommend (a little embarrassing to set up in front of clients...they think you are going swimming so do it beforehand)

I think this is a great product. I am always a fan of small and portable. This lives up to all of that. it works just as advertized but the drop in light is at least 50% if not more. I use the flolight microbeam 256. I use 4 of them and yes the are a harsh light but I need all the light I can get.I would buy this product in a heartbeat if I could get more light out of it.

These lights are fantastic! Just little soft boxes for harsh LED's. We use these with The Digital Juice miniburst 256's. They even out the light completely and make for really pleasing interviews. My only gripe (minor) is that they have diffusion on the back and front panels. This cuts down the light output quite a bit. I doubt that you'll want to further gel the light because you'd have nothing left. But overall, a totally compact, easy to setup, fast softbox for led lights!

This is such an awesome and really great product! I love it! Definitely worth it to give it a try.

After using the Macro Softbox on a number of shoots it has become a must-have in my gear bag. Works great as a diffuser to soften harsh LED light (especially when shooting people wearing glasses or holding reflective objects). The softbox inflates quickly and packs down small.This newer version has updated vinyl tabs that are very sturdy.
