Mort: The Play (Discworld Series)

Great stage adaptation to a truly genius story!
The book, on which this play is based, is one of my favorites. Death is my favorite Discworld character and this story does a great job of developing his character. This play is a really nice adaptation. As the forward indicates, it is one possible interpretation of the story, but it is so well done that I don't see much need to change it.The play captures the humor (much of it subtle enough to require clear delivery) and insight into Mort, Albert, and the Grim Reaper's characters. There are nice hints in the forward for planning your troupe's delivery, including recommendations for stage and special effects work. I wish that I could see this on the English stage that made this particular arrangement come to life, but after reading it, I have a good feel for what is needed. I hope to see this in a local school drama department. If it happens then I'll update the review with insight from that experience. The book also has all the necessary contact information to get permission to perform the play, so this is really all a director would need to get started.

Even better than the novel
I loved the novel and I think I like this play even more!My year 12s are looking for a play to perform and I wasn't sure that this play would be suitable but I'm very pleased that it is. We only have 10 actors but I think with a combination of live action and cinematic theatre we will be able to stage it. That's what I love about Stephen Briggs' adaptations: they are so simple and easy to work with! (NB Performance rights are also very reasonably priced!)Play has a cast of 24 but many are very small parts. Written in a style that is very easy to stage. Retains the discworld flavour without needing a prior knowledge of discworld to enjoy it!

Brilliant
This is a simply brilliant adaptation of the acclaimed book of the same name from the Disc World Series. After reading the book I could not see how it could be successfully adapted for the stage. After reading this, now I do. 😀

Suitability
Checking its suitability as to whether it can be staged as an amateur production and the length. Already very aware of the excellent original novel.

I had to phone and get it resent, but I recieved it within 48 hours, so thumbs up all round!
This script is awesome, I'm hoping to use it with a drama group that uses drama to aid recovery from addiction. If we can perform this play, it would be amazing! I bagsy the role of Death by the way!
