Of Dreams, Holy Scripture and Financial Derivatives
Already a fan of Davis Bunn, ever since he authored books as T. Davis Bunn, I was pleased to be thrust into the same high level vivid description, gripping plot and concise research which I expect in Bunn's writing as I read his novel, Book of Dreams. To Dr. Elena Burroughs -- widow, clinical psychologist, and "foremost authority on dreams"- the "professional mask" she wears maintains her distance from the world. With her office at Oxford and a bestselling book: Book of Dreams, Elena hides by helping clients cope with their own problems. The mask begins to crack with two events:First, a high profile client with frightening dreams enters her office after being referred by Elena's mentor and godmother, Miriam.Second, Miriam, a former clinical psychologist and her dearest friend, entrusts Elena with an ancient book of Holy Scriptures, termed "the book of dreams."Of Elena's early encounters with the Holy phrase, "Our Father, who art in heaven," Bunn writes "The words seemed to find shelter in the morning breeze, as though chanted by the leaves overhead. As though the birds sang them in time to Elena's own heart."Bunn's research of dream theory is apparent in referring to Carl Jung and Freud, yet he skillfully brings theory to an understandable level. When helping her client to cope with a recurrent dream, Elena says, "Dreams often reveal very deep issues that the conscious mind seeks not only to avoid, but to actually flee from. Yet the unconscious mind realizes that this repressed emotion and memory must be confronted. It expels the putrid mess with the same steady insistence with which the body forces out pus from an untreated wound."While layering the story with dreams and ancient scripture, Bunn set me on a learning curve into the world of "political fixers," "hedge funds," and "financial derivatives" in an all too real parallel where "the common man is crushed by debt and despair."Bunn is a master of gripping plot intensity much like a conductor directs a symphony in a crescendo. Just enough rests to catch your breath, but then all elements converge and build intensity as multiple characters' dreams and reality reach the climax. However, it's all a novel and our dreams are only irrelevant mirages when morning dawns...or are they?

Awesome reading material and reflection
This is one of many books I've purchase for reading since I was on the road the majority of each year. Too much time spent waiting and flight time so I got back into reading to fill the time gaps. This book was awesome and I really enjoyed it, otherwise I would not have remembered it all this time later...

very captivating story
This story captured my attention from the very beginning. I was drawn into the mystery and story along who each character. I was compelled to keep reading and see what would happen next. The message of God's guidance and protection was strong. The challenge given to the main character to seek out God's will and be ready to share his truth with the other on the journey seemed to be a message for me as well. I was entertained by this story but more so, I was challenged. Great read I would recommend to all.

So good!
I really enjoy Davis Bunnโs books, and this was another good one. Filled with intrigue, political schemes, a race against time, and of course romance, there is always the goal and focus on God. What I found fascinating was the core based around dreams and the Spiritโs ability to not only communicate, but to directly influence the worldโs structures such as finances and global banking. Canโt wait to read the next one!

A great story but a lot more.
Since others have given a lot of the story in their reviews I won't do that.It is a book I couldn't put down.I don't usually underline a fiction book but there were things in this I needed to be able to go back to.I will read it again & soon.I believe each person will take away something different from it depending on where you are in your faith walk but I highly recommend it to everybody Christain & non-christian alike.I hope we find out more of what happens to Elena and her new friends.

Another Bunn Home Run!
I loved Book of Dreams! At a time when our family is slogging through deep loss, it really spoke to me of the nearness, power and love of God. I especially liked Dr. Elena Burroughs and her balance of strength and vulnerability. Bunn does a super job of understanding the female mind and emotions, while showing deep respect for God's power in her life. Loved it. As with all of Davis Bunn's books, this is superbly written. I found myself rereading some sentences just to absorb how he did it. Can't wait for the next one.

Eye opening
I wonder how much of this book is fiction and how much is reality. It mirrors some of what is happening in the world today. I enjoyed the biblical insight and the spiritual touch of God. I was quite frankly moved by this book. Thank you for writing this book.

An engrossing read
T Davis Bunn pulls you into the story. You have to force yourself to set it down. The Book of Dreams explores one way that God speaks to us, in dreams. The story is riveting and fraught with mystery. Like life, the story doesn't have a tidy resolution for each issue.Shaun Griffin

So relevant in our financial climate
A stunning look at what may lie behind politics and financial markets and institutions. As well as an adventure story and a lesson in relying on God to act.

A great book for all Christians in the finance world.
Not only is it a great expose of the workings behind the scenes in high finance but a prophetic message for those wanting to be in the centre of Gods will

Great and challenging
I am amazed at Davis Bunn's ability to continually present us with new concepts; it shows his gifts and talents which makes him a great author. The Book of Dreams was full of suspense and exercises in faith and trust; but it also is a challenge and reminder to be prepared to be obedient to the leadings of the Holy Spirit to fulfil one's destiny in God.
