THE AMES COMPANY 994947 True American Single Bit Michigan Axe, 3.5 lb

I didn't by this axe on here. But I will say this: buying an axe is all about looking for the right things. Is it balanced? Does the handle have a lot of growth rings? Is the top wedge centered and the metal wedge in the middle? I bought this in person, and can say that I looked or specific things and out of the others, there was a noticeable difference in workmanship and the one I chose was the best one. That being said, the steel is American and pretty good quality, but I had to sharpen the hell out of it first. Secondly it has a clear coated handle. I sanded it off and added oil, like a wooden axe should have. For the work put in, it probably is still worth it to me because it's made with us steel and in the U.S. and I picked the best out of 7 or 8 og them. But buying online I would say it's damn near impossible to guarantee it will be wedged in the center and the handle of a decent hickory. After I sharpened it, it swings great and is a BEAST. Holds an edge! But I had to put it there first. Considering all I did to get this axe working I am giving it 3 stars. If it lasts over a year, I will change it to 4.

When I purchased this it worked pretty well. However, over a short period of time the handle loosened up and became unsafe. I would have went with a different model had I known this.

Looks like a good axe and made in America. It arrived sharp and ready to chop - just had to smooth off some small burrs with a stone. Axe head attachment looks solid. I bought it for hurricane clean-up after Matthew, but the storm shuffled east and spared me the work. I don't mind at all. Now I'm ready for the next storm.

This product was advertised as one of the “True American” axes, but really is “True Temper.” I specifically bought it for the former reason and was disappointed when it arrived and was not as advertised. Works fine obviously but I made the purchase on that basis for a highly specific reason. Fine axe just not what was advertised.

Great ax . American made , rugged , sharp , swings easy and true .

I purchased this axe from Deal Outlets from Amazon. And I have to say this is the worst Axe I have ever purchased. Its just horrible overall. Poor poor quality.
