Product Description Sixteen years after the release of the original film, New Line Cinema is bringing a feature film adaptation of the Tony award-winning Broadway production "Hairspray" to life. Featuring new and original material based on John Waters' 1988 cult classic about star-struck teenagers on a local Baltimore dance show, the comedy and soundtrack include a collection of such talent as John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, Allison Janney, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, and Elijah Kelley. .com What fun! This soundtrack of the film adaptation of the Broadway musical overflows with glossy, ol' fashioned '60s-style pep. It won't win any awards for innovation, but it may well be one of the most feel-good releases of the year. While not quite as super-energetic as the original Broadway cast, the new crew ain't too shabby: Nikki Blonsky delivers as Tracy Turnblad and Zac Efron (High School Musical) makes for a devoted boyfriend, and the supporting cast gleefully embraces the show's silly-but-generous spirit. John Travolta (who gets to utter the particularly ironic line "it's been years since someone asked me to dance") goes drag as Tracys mom, Edna, while Michelle Pfeiffer's slight stiffness is appropriate for her uptight character, especially on the cha-cha "(The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs." After Mama Morton in Chicago, Queen Latifah puts in another brassy turn as Motormouth Maybelle ("Big, Blonde and Beautiful," which is then reprised by Travolta and Pfeiffer). The show's authors, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, have written three new numbers for the movie: the rollicking (and first single) "Ladies' Choice," "New Girl in Town" and "Come So Far." In addition, the CD also includes two tracks that aren't in the film but were in the show: "Cooties," sung by Aimee Allen, and "Mama, Im a Big Girl Now," sung by all three Tracy Turnblads: Blonsky, Ricki Lake (from the source movie) and Marissa Jaret Winokur (from the original Broadway cast). --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Fun!
Before this movie, I had never heard the OBC recording nor had I seen the original movie so I knew absolutely nothing about any of the songs. The only reason I went to see this movie was because it is a musical and I'm a huge fan of musicals...well I am really glad I saw it because it is amazing! The music is absolutely fantastic and I think that the casting was very well done.I really like the fact that the casting directors decided to cast new-comer Nikki Blonsky in a cast full of big names (John Travolta, Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pheiffer, etc...). It just made the movie that more enjoyable for me.All right now down to the soundtrack. I love it! The musical numbers just make you want to get up and dance. Everyone has wonderful singing voices, especially Nikki. She did a beautiful job and when I learned that this was her first movie I couldn't believe it; she is a natural. John Travolta was beyond incredible as Tracy's mother. He made Edna believable and that is really hard to do! Michelle Pheiffer did a great job as well. I remember watching her in "Grease 2" which was the last time I heard her really sing in a movie. All in all, this is a great musical with a great message that you don't have to be a certain size, color, ethnicity, etc... to do what you want to do. You just need to go out there and do it. And that's a great message for anyone. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. You'll love both the movie and the soundtrack.

Nicest soundtrack in town
The soundtrack of the hit movie musical (and probably the best film musical since "Moulin Rouge!")is well worth the price that you pay to get it. Included are toe-tapping hits like "Good Morning, Baltimore" and "You Can't Stop the Beat" that will make any person want to groove it and shake it like it's 1962.I recommend this version of the soundtrack over the stage one for a few reasons. First, most viewers will be more familiar with the film and it will come closer to their experience of what "Hairspray" is. Second, although he's a brilliant stage actor, Harvey Fierstein's voice is hugely annoying on the stage soundtrack when it's not propped up by a visual performance. Third, the orchestrations are teriffic; even if they're not 100% accurate as a represention the music of the period, they're faithful enough to maintain the spirit of the early '60s without sacrificing the potentials of a full orchestra. There are a few drawbacks. The absence of "The Big Doll House" (which is in the stage version) is a disappointment. Also, a few music cuts are sloppy (such as in "New Girl in Town"), but overall an excellent addition to any music collection.

GREAT SOUNDTRACK!!
My daughter loves musicals but I was hesitant about watching the movie; I am a huge fan of the Ricki Lake version. The movie was fantastic and I knew instantly that I wanted to purchase the soundtrack. I loved the soundtrack and sing all the songs very loudly in my car. The soundtrack has all the songs from the movie. I am still a fan of the original but this movie is amazing in its own right. It is not fair to compare the two, they are both awesome!! The movie came in great condition and on time, I would purchase from the seller again.

get your dancing shoes on..
After you pop in the Hairspray soundtrack, you won't stop dancing til the last song is over with. All the actors are on point with each song that they perform whether its Queen Latifah singing "Big Blonde and Beautiful", James Marsden "(It's) Hairspray", Nikki Blonsky "I Can Hear the Bells" or Zac Efron "It Takes Two". Just about every song on the cd is listen worthy on many occasions. The only songs i didn't really care for where "(You're) Timeless To Me" Christopher Walken/John Travolta and the Big Blonde and Beautiful (Reprise) John Travolta/Michelle Pfeiffer. Its nothing against the songs or singers. I just wasn't into either as they didnt catch me the way the other songs on the soundtrack did.My personal faves:"Ladies Choice" Zac Efron"The Nicest Kids in Town" James Marsden"I Know Where I've Been" Queen Latifah"You Can't Stop The Beat" Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Elijah Kelley, John Travolta and Queen Latifah"Come So Far (Got So Far To Go)" Queen Latifah, Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron and Elijah Kelley"(The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs" Michelle Pfeiffer"I Can Hear the Bells" Nikki Blonsky"Welcome To The 60s" Nikki Blonsky and John Travolta"Run and Tell That" Elijah Kelley and Taylor Parks(it has so much energy and flow to it you can't help love it)All those songs listed above and even ones not mentioned are all top notch making the Hairspray soundtrack a worthy addition to your musical library. It goes without saying that you should check out the movie as well to get the full effect.

Mama I'm a Big Girl Now
I just had to buy this sound track from the movie "Hairspray" 2007, which I saw 5 times at the theatre. My favorite song is "Mama I'm a Big Girl Now", sung by Ricki Lake, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Nikki Blonsky, and this song prompted me to buy the sound track. Other favorite songs are "Good Morning Baltimore", "I Can Hear The Bells" and "The New Girl in Town". The entire CD is great. I'm happy to have bought it. Can't wait to buy the movie when it is released. Nikki Blonsky is so cute and has a wonderful voice. She's perfect to play Tracy Turnblad. I don't know where they found her, but she's absolutely perfect. She'll be a big star someday. She already is!

Super Soundtrack!
Anspieltipps:1. Good Morning Baltimore3. It Takes Two4. Miss Baltimore Crabs7. The New Girl in Town10. Big, Blone an Beautiful12. Timeless to me15. Hairspray16. You can't stop the beat (Der Track aus dem Trailer)19. Mama, I'm a big girl Now
