The good: solid build
The good: solid build, easy use, sound level indicators are nice. The bad: the pre-amps in this unit are no better than ones in my Panasonic GH3. After doing some comparissons with the GH3 noise levels and with the Rode videomic pro I concluded that this unit doesn't improve noise levels relative to GH3 and is worse than the Rode microphone's built in +20db preamp. As such - I am not sure what function this unit is doing, other than ability to take two sources of audio and feed them into the camera's audio input.

Crystal Clear DSLR audio!
This is an AMAZING piece of equipment if you are shooting DSLR video and want to record to the camera's files.I have used a variety of other things to achieve what this unit does - and this one blows them all away! The audio is crystal clear, with no hiss from the camera gain. The LCD screen showing the audio levels to both channels is very, very nice, and allows for you to know that it is at the appropriate levels. I was initially shooting to a Canon 70d and would use the camera audio levels meter on screen, and combined with this meter, I was able to confidently know that my audio was at the right levels. I am now using this with a 7d Mark II which allows for monitoring through a built in headphone jack on camera, and the audio levels through the DXA Pocket are amazing! We have also used this on a Canon 5d Mark III with great results. If you are trying to get good audio on a DSLR, and want to save the hassle of "fixing it in post", buy this unit!

Not that great, save your money for something better
Doesnt support "plug-in" power for some rode mics. The level meeters are very precise. Phantom power would be nice to have.

Top quality and versatile audio adapter.
I've been using a DXA-POCKET to record clean and crisp audio with a Canon Vixia for about 18 mths. Without this device using a single XLR mic (with the correct 3.5mm to XLR adapter cable-Hosa) directly into the Vixia with the gain up enough so you can hear there was hum and other noise. With the DXA you can turn down the gain on the camcorder and turn it up on the DXA with no hum, no noise just very clean audio. I also connect 2 XLR mics using a Hosa 2 XLR to 3.5mm adapter cable and record in stereo with full control of both channels. I use it with my Windows 10 tablet to add narration to videos when editing. That does require a additional piece of equipment as the headphone jack on most tablets is output only and not many have a mic jack. I use a Sabrent USB Aluminum External Stereo Sound Adapter | Silver ($9) and it sounds much better then the built-in mic! This device may not meet the expectations of some audiophiles but performs very well for the price point. Highly recommended. One more thing-carry extra 9V batteries as cheap ones last only about 3-4 hours.
