This is very handy to have around, as useful as a fire extinguisher. There is no substitute for having a good, correct tool for a job, and this one fills the bill very well. I haven't had to use it yet, but know it will be there to minimize chances of choking.

Choking can happen anywhere - are you sure this will always be nearby? And even if it is close, once you do start to choke, you can't breathe, and when you can't breathe, you can't talk or yell or ask someone bring this to you, and you'll soon pass out - maybe before you have the time to go get it yourself.Short of buying one for every room in your home, and your car and your workplace, a better idea would be to learn the Heimlich so you can save others, and also learn how to Heimlich yourself with a chair etc.

A bit hard to rate something I have not yet had to use, but I live alone and it gives me peace of mind as it looks like it would work.

I think every house hold should have this and if you live alone for sure. Never can tell when an emergency situation will show up. This is a great device with simple instructions displayed on it so you will see how to use it right away. Nice to have a place to hang it so you know it is at all times. Comes with a hook and easy to install too.

My girlfriend chokes a lot while she is eating, sometimes while driving. I got this for her and hope to save her life a time or two. I think it's a great idea for singles and people who tend to eat alone/on the go.

This seems like a "must have" for anyone who lives or spends a lot of time alone - or with someone who is clueless in an emergency. I was at a banquet once where a woman choked on an oyster. With a room full of people and several wait staff on hand - no one knew what to do, until one man stepped forward and saved her life. It turned out he owned a chain of steak houses and done the "Heimlich" many times. Thousands die every year from choking - so either proper train or this gadget should be required in all restaurants.

We have these in my cafeteria at work (a hospital) and I got several for the house and for friends and family. While I hope it never needs to be used, we've trained the teen kids on using it and where it's located, so we now have some extra peace of mind when we leave them at home alone.

Practiced with it. Good idea. I am 80 and took quite a bit of first aid. I live alone and this gadget gives me some piece of mind. Great idea.
