"Findus At Christmas" is a delightfully illustrated 8 1/2 inch by 12 inch children's Christmas book. The full color pictorial cover of the book will suck in the inquisitiveness and attention of children. The full color illustrations by Swedish artist Sven Nordqvist are rich with details. Children will love to stare at the details in each of the colorful drawings. The text in the book flows smoothly and exposes children to a few Swedish words that may need explanation. There are only about 3 or 4 Scandanavian words that may need to be explained like: loo, larder, and lutefish.The story plot is about Pettson and his talking cat, Findus, preparing for the Christmas celebration. It is the day before Christmas Eve and Pettson and his cat waited until the last minute to prepare for Christmas. On this snowy day they go out into the woods with their sled to collect fir branches for decorations. Pettson slipped on a stone and fell on the sled which slid down a hill and crashed into a stone wall injuring his foot. Now he couldn't do the things he needed to prepare for the Christmas celebration; things like cleaning the house, going shopping for Christmas food, and getting the Christmas tree. Findus tried very hard to clean the house. When it was apparent that Pettson could not travel to the forest to cut down the Christmas tree, he devised a plan to make their Christmas tree and the decorations which turned out really well. Because of Pettson's injured leg, they could not go shopping for Christmas. Findus and Pettson's neighbors and friends come together and provide a wonderful Christmas celebration for their friends- Findus and Pettson.The story illustrates kindness, sharing, giving and coming together as a community to help someone in need. This is a delightful book which would make a nice addition to any child's Christmas book collection. I highly recommend the book. However, I wish the author would have included some of the real meaning of Christmas i.e. the birth of Jesus.

I’ve been a huge fan of Findus and Pettson books ever since I was a kid and my mom brought me home a copy from Norway. The stories and illustrations have always made me smile. The illustrations are so detailed with lots of little characters you might miss if you if you read too fast. I love Findus the Cat so much! 100% adorable!! I wish the United States were more aware of these books, because they’re absolutely wonderful. Sven Nordqvist is a genius!

So funny and Sweet! Findus might be a little "too much" at times, but he's only a young litttle cat, and he learns his manners, and make Pettson's life complete.

Illustrations were fantastic!

Perfect book for the Christmas Season. My 2-1/2 year old highly enjoyed it. Reading level is too advanced for her, but I paraphrase part of the story. The pictures are perfect with lots of little details to engage their imagination. The story is enchanting and very heartwarming, conveying the message of how important it is to help each other and that it's love (for your friends and family) that makes Christmas. I also liked that two main characters each gave a small gift to the other (a jojo and a potato peeler) and that both were so content with that. A beautiful story that shifts the focus away from gifts and materialism and back to love and friendship and the simple joy of helping each other.

I got the book and dearly love it.Am giving it too my great granddaughter.

I ordered this book when it became available because my son and I have enjoyed all the others that have been translated into English.I think that 5 was probably the age that would have been the best to start reading these to my son, now at 7 he appreciates the fantastically eccentric stories and illustrations more than ever and has told me that he wants to read them to his children when he's grown up.I don't remember many stories from my childhood but I think my son will treasure these books for the rest of his life.

Just splendid

My son loves the previous "Findus" books I have bought, so I thought I would go ahead and get him this festive edition. It does not disappoint! Pettson and Findus potter around together much like Wallace and Gromit and have many adventures (and misadventure) but everything comes right at the end, and Christmas goes ahead anyway! Great book.

Good read

This book is so delightful. My children really enjoyed it during the Christmas season and I enjoyed reading it to them. Beautifully illustrated.
