Right book at the right time.
My neighbor passed away a little over a week ago. She was a grandma and had custody of her 3 year old grandson. It was a shock to all of us. My daughter is a child psychologist. She recommended this book to help his Grandfather explain whrre his Grandma went. I took this and one other my daughter recommended and gave it to his only caretaker and grandfather. He cried when I gave them to him. He was lost, his wife of many years, he didn't know how to answer all of his grandson's questions. That little boy we have hanied and he is very smart. He asked my husband if he was mad at him because we didn't see him over the weekendThis book was so valued by grandpa. I felt so sad and helpless over my neighbor and friends unexpected death. By helping them out I could feel less helpless and that I had more than a "sorry for you loss" to give.

Best grief book on our shelves
During a period of intense grief for my family I made the most depressing order on Amazon and purchased 9 recommended books. This one came out as the best- by far. Todd Parr's simple sentences are accessible to everyone, young children, Teens, and even adults. We appreciated this book so much, it is our go-to gift when a friend is experiencing loss/grief.There is nothing faith based and no promise of Heaven; rather it makes space for a whole range of feelings that people experience after a loss and actionable ways of feeling your feelings (like talking to others and remembering the good times together). This is the type of book you don't want to purchase... but one you should have. (also, if you are reading this review to get the book, I am sorry for your loss)

Important book on grief
This book is helpful for kids and families dealing with the loss of a loved one and grief. It's a go to book I give to families with kids experiencing loss. Todd Parr has excellent books on dealing with emotions of all types. Love Todd!

Little kid appropriate and versatile
This was one of several books I purchased as the parent of a 2.5 year old when our family pet passed away unexpectedly. I read them all, but this was the only one I felt comfortable reading with him and seemed to be appropriate to his level of comprehension. To be fair, it’s general enough that it could apply to a friend moving away as well, which in our case felt helpful. I also enjoyed reading it as the parent.

Great for young grievers
Many grief books for kids are a bit too complex for toddlers. Some of them are also religious, which doesn’t suit our beliefs. Or they are too specific. Unfortunately, my husband died suddenly when my daughter was 20 months old. I started reading this with her when she was a bit past 2 yrs old, and it really helps her understand and she really likes it. The fish could be anyone a child loses, so it’s really good for all sorts of deaths in the family. A nice conversation starter.

What an amazing book!
This book has gotten my family through some very tough losses! I am also a teacher and have lent it out to kids that have suffered a loss. It is short, simple, and written with love! I couldn’t love this book any more!!
