It is a two part chemical set. Look up on youtube what auto clear coats can do. I would say yes. As long it is not epoxy as the sun breaks it down to powder. This is not epoxy. Good luck. I used it as a top coat on aluminum over metallic spray paint that was not a two part and therefore soft and easy to scratch. The clear coat made it much stronger and was happy not to have to pull out the big spray equipment to get it done. You might need two cans if you are planning to build it up a bit. One can just might make it. You will have a lot of masking unless the rims are naked. **Q: Can I use this product as a top coat for cabinets (maple cabinet with light stain)?** A: Your cabinets are likely installed in a hight humidity environment (ie. Kitchen) Wood tends to shrink and expand, which requires a flexible top coat to prevent surface cracking. This is a very durable clear coat. It is resistant to gasoline and many other solvents. It is also very hard. I don’t think that it would do well on wood, but for automotive applications it is absolutely superb.
