The Dell 5100 works in conjunction with the Dell 5100cn toner cartridges.Laser printing requires two main components: the toner which carries the "ink" to print and the imaging drum which is responsible for transferring or imprinting the toner onto the paper. The technical term for the drum is the organic photoconductor. In most laser toner cartridges, the drum and toner comes as one unit. Dell printer cartridges differ from most laser toners because the toner and drum are separate units. This is why if you have a Dell printer, you need to purchase both toner AND drum. Fortunately, the drum has a longer print capacity than the toner powder so you do not always have to buy a new drum each time you run out of toner. First unit had a gouge in the black roller, second unit had the wrong authenticator chip, but was easily fixed by swapping it with the chip from the unit being replaced.

did not work at all - gave error messages
caused my printer to show error messages, we went back to the Original Dell and determined it was a bad TonerBoss product. We could not return it either because we lost too much time trying to debug the error message.
