Tough in spirit but a little lacking in talent, a girls' Episcopalian high school basketball team must fight to make a name for themselves through the guidance of their new coach, Lootie Pfannder. A former all-American point guard on her college basketball team, Lootie has some unorthodox coaching methods but believes in playing with passion, and the players of St. Tammany, a private prep school for girls, have plenty of that. Now it's up to this determined coach to take this ragtag group from failure of a dark and dusty gym to the bright lights of a state championship. Co-starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Saved by the Bell), Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster), and TV and radio legend Steve Allen, The St. Tammany Miracle is a family film about three of life's greatest gifts: faith, inspiration, and basketball.

Christian Movie, But a Bit Rough Cut
Because one's spiritual life is unseen, it is difficult to portray it in a movie, which is a visual medium. The best one can hope for is that the character's Spiritual beliefs are expressed in wholesome and righteous behavior. In too many movies, a character's Christian activities seems tacked on rather than flowing from a 'Natural Spring' within. This movie does a better than average job of showing the coaches belief and love for her Lord. For example, when she is questioning whether she made the right decision to come to St. Tammany School, she withdraws to a quiet place and prays about it. In several other incidents, she brings up her faith, but only when it seems natural and appropriate.Unfortunately, there seem to be gaps in the story that makes it flow somewhat roughly. In one incident, the 'bad girl' gets drunk and drives into a teammate. [The great Steve Allen appears as the injured girl's grandfather.] The movie leaves her to recover in the hospital until she suddenly appears in the final game, entering the game from the injured reserve list. One minute she is in a near coma, then playing basketball, with no mention of her recovery. Another part that confused my wife is that the coach and the priest seemed to be mostly at each other's throats in disagreement; then suddenly they become romantically interested in each other. What made them change????I think one reason this movie is so often included in Christian bookstore DVD selections is because of its overt Christian characters. Many will like that the coach refused to marry a young man who clearly thought he was in love with her because he did not share the depth of Christian faith that she did. In summary, I would say that this movie would be mostly of interest to Christian families who want examples of plainly Christian characters as examples for their children. Just don't expect a polished Hollywood production.

Good, but not what I expected....
Well, I thought this movie was pretty good. I was pleasingly surprised. Although, I am a HUGE Mark-Paul Gosselaar fan, and expected to see much moree of him. He was in the movie for the last half hour or so, and not even that much. Considering he's on the cover of the box, I expected to see more of him.

terrible goody goody script and film
This film is such a terrible film it looks like a bad pax/hallmark tv movie. I am ahuge Soleil Moon Frye fan and seen many of her films and she does a descent job with such abad script that stars tv's melrose place/savannah vixen Jamie Lurner who honestly does a bad acting job and is unbelievable in this film. If you want to see abeetter acting job of lurner rent Confessions of a sorority girl were she co stars with alyssa milano.Mark-paul gosselaar who is on the all around the cover of the box is only in the last portion of the film, eventhough i am not ahuge fan of him he does adescent job.It goes to show you dont judge abook by its cover. I thaught about given it two stars, but that will be to generous of me and god knows I will be lying.
