Merry Christmas, Squirrels!

Bought this for the grandkids and it’s a hit! Cute story with nice pictures illustrations!

Every year I do a surprise Christmas book sack for my kids and I found this gem this year. I can't wait to read this one with them. The story is about Mr. Peanuts, a squirrel, who gets a letter from his cousin before Christmas and ventures to go see him and spend the holiday together. They make cookies, decorate the tree, read the "The Nut Before Christmas," and open Christmas presents.Ordinary Christmas activities, but what makes this so magical and special are the real life photos of squirrels doing the activities! I was delighted to see Mr. Peanuts using a tiny snowblower to clear a path, riding a tiny car to drive to his cousin's, decorating the tree, reading tiny books, and opening presents. The photos are amazing and way better than any illustrations for the story could be. My kids will love it. The book also includes 6 tear out squirrel gift tags, which are so cute.Also in the book is the story of how the author came up with the book idea, based on squirrels in her Canada backyard. It also tells how she creates her own props for the squirrels and how she watches them from afar to photograph them and prompts them to interact with the props by hiding peanuts in the props. This is such a clever book and a cool addition to our Christmas collection!

Nancy Rose, Canadian author, grandmother and photographer has created a series of five books about squirrels you and your children or grandchildren will love. As you read the stories you'll be amazed at the pictures she's taken and the poses the squirrels are shown in. You'll have to find her website to read the backstory of how it all came about. Each story is very creative. The squirrel pictures are absolutely real, although you might think they're posed and each book is large so the pages are vivid and colorful.

I wanted to get a book for my grandson who just turned one year old. Yes, he's a little too young to take proper care of a book like this, but I figure grandpa can read to him and then add the book to his collection when he is a little older. This book's charm is the use of actual photos of squirrels in sets with props that the author/photographer designed with amazing detail. It shows a lot of talent and dedication to craft.The story is well written and age-appropriate for small children who are naturally fascinated with squirrels. Having grown up in a place with a large wooded area behind my house, I often watched the squirrels playing in my backyard and was amused at their antics. This book brings back memories of those times. I heartily recommend it for parents or grandparents who share the wonder of reading with small children.

If you want a cheerful picture book with a Christmas theme it's pretty hard to go wrong with this book. The author has handcrafted detailed miniature scenes and then has photographed real live squirrels as characters in those scenes. The detailed crafted scenes are interesting and the squirrels are a hoot. The storyline isn't much, but of course that's not the point. The littlest grandkids recognize squirrels, (as opposed to, say, lemurs and wombats), and get a kick out of seeing them play-acting on these sets. The older kids get all of that too, but also appreciate the detail work involved in the stage dressing and the subtle jokes woven into the background, (peanut jokes and puns, and so on). So, depending on your little readers' moods, you can just be silly with the book, or you can pay attention to the story, or you can talk about how such a thing can be made. Lots more options, and reading play value, than just a picture book. This was a happy, random find.

My grandson loves squirrels. This series is well written. The stories are fun and squirrels become like people. I would recommend to everyone!

I bought this book for my wife as we feed and love the squirrels that come to our back yard. We enjoy seeing them running around and having a great day. If you love wild life and squirrels, no matter what age, then you will love this very enjoyable book. Every page has pictures of real squirrels set in very unique and enjoyable settings.

I bought this book as a present for my son for Christmas. He was so happy. We own another two books by the same author.
