Rock solid design; naysayers are confused!
Very solid design; well made and very sturdy. The steel plate frame is swaged together at the top for strength and smoothness inside the ring. The axle has an indexing pin that fits into a matching recess to preclude the axle from rotating, which prevents premature wear. The bearings are sintered bronze Oilite bushings--not ball bearings--pressed into the cast zinc sheaves/wheels, so they don't spin in the sheave like a skateboard bearing. However, these bearings are extremely good for load-bearing applications because they won't gall the metal like ball bearings can. These are shipped dry, so pop out the retaining pin and apply a little light grease or 30-wt oil to the axle to ensure smooth operation and long life. I bought these to assist with pulling wheeled items up loading ramps into my truck. Order 100' of solid-braid 3/8" poly anchor line, designed for boats; 3/8" is the maximum diameter line you can use with these blocks, and it works extremely well. Smaller diameters will work too, but 1/2" line is too large. If the edges of the sheaves are sharp, you can remove the sheaves from the frame, insert a 3/8" bolt through the center, and chuck it into a hand drill. Spin the drill while holding a smooth file or a piece of 220-grit sandpaper against the spinning edges and it will smooth/polish the edges. Happy customer here.

No ball/roller bearing
The product description says it has "Life Lube alloy bearing", this pulley doesn't have conventional ball/roller bearing. It has a metal bushing permanently stuck on each sheave. I don't know what "life lube" means, but there was no trace of any lubrication material between the bushing and sheave. May be they just refer to the alloy bushing? Unsurprisingly, this pulley does make a noise and the sheaves don't turn freely even under light (<20 lbs.) load. The noise became bearable after applying some teflon lub, but not sure how long it would last and if it would work for a heavy load application.

Best Pulleys Available
These are great! National is the best brand out there. Don't bother with the cheaper cast models, they are junk. I've had two of these in use outdoors, for several years. I use a pair of them as a block and tackle and they work great! I've had a 30 lbs. plus bird feeder, suspended from roof rafters, raised and lowered daily in summer months and they are still just like new! Just added a heavy, double tomato planter, suspended from another set and it works great. If you have time, take a look at the attached photos. You'll see the applications I'm describing.

Good value for light loads.
For light loads under 250 lbs. and low torque. I wouldn’t push this product to limit.

buy a pair, sand the edges
buy two and not be a dummy and realize that you need a pair for a pulley system.also file down the edges of the pulleys, they're a bit rough and may fray your rope.

Pulleys have sharp edges
I bought two of these double pulleys to build a block and tackle system to raise an amateur radio (ham radio) tower and antenna. They worked well for the job, but before I started, I had to file, sand, and polish the sharp edges of the pulley. I used braided nylon line and I was concerned that the sharp edges would cut the outer fibers. It only took a few minutes for each pulley and they worked great after that. They pulleys were marked with the Stanley brand. I will buy them again, if necessary, from Amazon/National Hardware/Stanley.

National make very smooth durable pulleys
Don’t waste your time with the cheapo brands because you’ll just end up returning them

For 3/8 inch rope or smaller
This pulley works well with 3/8 inch rope but I bought it for 1/2 inch rope because another buyer answered a question about the maximum size rope as 1/2 inch. The 1/2 rope will not fit this pulley.

Good but could cost less.
Was really happy to get the part to complete my project. Quality is good, not perfect. However I was massively disappointment to find out my friend picked up an identical unit for 6 times less at a local hardware store. $2 vs $18
