A great read
Heady mixture of fact and fiction. I was a fan of Harold Lamb as a student. Lost touch with him. This was my chance to get reconnected. Enjoyable reunion.

Tangled plots, wildly improbable coincidences, jaw-dropping racial, religious, cultural and gender stereotyping, blood, gratuitous violence, completely impossible plot resolutions. In other words, the print ancestors of every Indiana Jones movie ever made. Glorious stuff. To be taken with a pinch of the salt wrung from the frozen, windswept, pitiless steppes of Central Asia ..........

Non Stop Action
"The Harold Lamb Megapack" is a collection of 18 adventure tales from the golden age of Pulp Fiction (early 20th Century). Most of the stories are about eras and peoples rather unfamiliar with the modern reader: the Cossacks, the Tatars, and the Mongols of the Middle Ages. Just imagine yourself being a 12 year old boy and enjoy the ride.

Historical central Asian Adventure .
A fun Read if somewhat dated . The background and society of the 15th to 18 century Central Asia is well depicted . Good fun adventure , some modern readers may find it mildly racist , but that's more to do with the colonial era in which was written hence an underlying bias , though some "native" characters are portrayed quite sympathetically. Good classic Adventure tales .

Top notch and not to be missed.
A fine writer who weaves a great yarn. All of these stories would serve extremely well as source material for film or TV scripts in the hands of genuinely talented screenwriters and directors. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because I wanted more. ;-)

A good read from one who knew history
Harold Lamb well knew the intricacies of life from the 10th century on. This and a great capacity to spin a tale makes his stories fascinating and imminently readable. Highly recommended.

Classic adventure tales
These tales conjure up lost realms and times... Exotic peoples , Cossacks , Tatars , hard bitten adventurers and errant knights caught in the charming romantic language of a master teller of tales a la the early 20 th century . Good reading for those who hunger for well wrought word slinging and yarns of yore .

If you like Victorian melodrama this is for you. It does come with generous helping of racism.

I've always been a fan of Howard Lamb, especially his non-fiction books about famous people. These stories show his expertise as a pulp fiction writer.
