It feels great holding it in the hand, and it is about 1/2 inch (1.4 cm) thickly bulged midway on the longest side of the iPad mini, which is good to know when using a stand. Doesn't come with a stand, and, personally, I prefer it that way. Not many stands will hold it up, I bought an Anker adjustable aluminum stand (latest verson) and it holds it up with this case on perfectly. I wanted a slightly soft, hefty but not too bulky case. It slides on easily, Has enough grooves and curves on it to keep the iPad from accidental spills on the table, and enough hard rubber-like material to keep dents from happening that can crack the glass. That happened to my iPads twice: once on hard concrete, and the other time. with another iPad mini on a hardwood floor, and that was when I had them in leather and neoprene cases with the plastic film screen protectors. The iPad corners are the most vulnerable to drop dents, which causes enough tension for the glass to shatter or break (no matter how small the dent is), in my experience. So, a decent protective case and "shatterproof" tempered glass is essential for iPad survival in my possession. I bought one first in the turquoise color, which looks exactly as pictured. After I received and checked it out, I bought another for my other iPad mini, in the straightforward blue color. Both colors are very pleasing to the eye. I don't have kids or pets to test it on, but I normally would not have my iPads for animals or children to use as toys. Although, with the playful, cheery colors (except black, of course) they come in, I could see how attractive it would be to young kids and playful pets. I feel better having these cases on my iPads, especially when I travel. I also like the cut out shape not being a circle or a rectangle. iPad buttons all work well with case on, especially the home button for finger i.d. All the openings are in the right places. I cover the Apple with a laminated picture that I like. I don't necessarily need people to know I have an iPad. It's easy to place on and take off the iPad. It fits perfectly. I've had a similar case like this on my Samsung S3 for years and a screen protector, and my phone out of the case still looks brand new after 2 years and in perfect working order, even though I've dropped it a few times and keep it in my tote shoulderbag, which is packed with other stuff like keys, flashlights, Kindle Paperwhite, cosmetic bags, and such. I'm pretty active as an urban and "outdoors" traveller and just a traveller in general. So, even though I am careful with my trusted e-devices which I use for years, I like to know I took enough preventative measures to protect my devices from accidental mishaps. I think it is well designed. Also, I am able to fit my iPad mini with the case on and an iPad mini-sized bluetooth keyboard together in a neoprene cover sleeve, and it is a snug fit. I like keeping the stand separate since I use it also for my Kindle or phone. Not sure what the other reviewer is talking about regarding the light sensor. I use my iPad with the case on in total darkness, soft room lighting, room daylight, store flourescent light and outdoor bright sunlight, and the screen light is fine. Since he said no one mentioned it, I thought I would.
