BEST educational toy ever
I just barely gave mine away. It was heart breaking but my kids outgrew it. They knew their math up to ten. So I bought this for a family member with kids this age. (I almost considered holding on to this for grandkids... but clearly we have a LONG way to go).An adult does need to put it together, but that allows for it to condense back down to the box. (Just putting the hands on.)The child puts a "5" weight in one hand and in the other hand they can put weights that add up to five. Too much and the scale goes down too far. This is all so simplistic. So why is it so fun? I have no clue. Maybe because it's so darling. Maybe because the material the weights are made from feel good in the hand and have the numbers in a fun kid style. Maybe because you can try to squish things on the hand. But it is a BLAST. And somehow, a normal weigh scale just doesn't do it -- or where would I find it that wouldn't pinch my kids' fingers? And the colors are so inviting. And it's just darling!I've used it for ALL my kids. Everyone loved it. (Now tell me how often that happens?!)I think this is the perfect present.I will say, I was actively involved with my kids as they played with it. I don't know if it sings by itself. But because it's purpose wasn't just for pure play. (Had it been, all the weights would have ended up all over the house... although I'm sure they'd try weighing other various things around the house which could have been interesting.). So PERFECT for the grandparent or parent who wants to spend time with their kiddo and help them learn. I'd say ages from 2-6 years old probably. But my 9 year old, after I gave it away told me she snuck it open and played with it often still. Oops! So I guess it goes until older!Thank you whoever made this toy. You have blessed our family!! And my kids get math and comparisons!

So many math concepts can be taught with this one toy!
Love the high quality that is expected with HAPE brand! This learning tool is so fun and well priced. I can teach my kids so many math concepts with this toy but so far they have had fun just weighing their other toys, i.e. the super hero weighs more than their race car.

Fantastic learning toy for 3-year-old
I bought this for my 3-year-old grandson, and he loves it! There are several ways for little ones to learn and play with this. We've had it for a year now and he started out just playing with it, putting the pieces on the scale randomly and exploring what would happen. Then he figured out how to balance the scale with the pieces. After that he began understanding the concept of the numbers on the pieces and basic addition and subtraction. He turns 4 next month and now he uses other objects to weigh and balance. Highly recommend this as a fun learning toy that has provided lasting entertainment.

Nanny lifesaver for math basics
Got these for my younger babies so they could understand the basics of math. The kids have fun and they do learn basic math skills but I gotta keep it short with the learning (meaning I don’t start to drone on and on) and they will continue having a great time. I also love that it’s part wood, my kids also like that it kind of looks like a minion.

It’s ok… lighter than I thought..
I expect it to be a little better quality and heavier.

Great learning tool
I must first admit, I purchased this and am using this with a Toddler who is under the recommended age. I bought this when she was 18 months old and around 20 months, I started introducing her to the concept of heavy, light, and equal. Now at 21 months, it seems that she is actually starting to grasp the concept as she gets excited when the monster’s arms are balanced. I love that it’s introducing her to math in a fun and playful way that she enjoys. After each play, I put the monster and weight pieces back into the box and she tends to pull this toy out a few times each week to play with, so I would say she finds joy in playing with it.As for quality, it has a wood base with plastic arms. It feels like it may be a little flimsy at first, but I think that’s just the nature of having the free floating arms so that it functions as a scale, and it has held up to our young toddlers play without any issues. I am personally very satisfied with the quality, and have been satisfied with the quality of toys from Hape toys each time I have purchased from them.I would definitely purchase this item again or as a gift for a toddler/young child.

Very educational
My 4 year old loves this. He learns better the numbers and also tries different objects to test what weights more. The build quality looks solid so far and the 4 year old is able to assemble the parts by himself.
