Great all around day tripper. Comfortable, safe and fast.
I got this kayak for my girlfriend after getting the Emotion Comet Kayak (8 ft) , and the Emotion Glide Kayak . But the Emotion Bliss Kayak is in a different class. The Comet is a tank, it's built to survive anything and for fast water. It was our test kayak. It would be great if I was a teenager with unlimited energy and wanted to run rapids, but we don't have that here. It is very safe because it will not sink under most circumstances, and here in Florida the weather can change very quickly and a calm bay can turn into a choppy, windy nightmare. No problem for the Comet, put your head down, dig deep, and tough it back to land. The sides are strong, high, and the bottom is flat enough that you're not going to turn over, and fits into my Ford Escape with the back shut. The Comet suited my needs, and I used it long enough to know I wanted a better kayak (1 yr). Living in Florida we have a lot of different types of water, a large river, a large bay and the Gulf of Mexico. So after reading many reviews I got an Emotion Glide. The Glide Kayak is like a Toyota Avalon with the Comet being more like an army jeep. The Glide is much more versatile, longer, wider, lighter built, with more room, and style. Above all the Glide is safe it laughs at waves. It looks good in the water, and is comfortable to be out in all day. And paddling it is so much easier than paddling the Comet. My Girlfriend was a kayak medalist in college so she hated the comet. She said it was like paddling a bathtub, and I now find out she was right. For cruising rivers, lakes, the bay, and the gulf the Glide is the way to go. For general adult use the Glide is a winner. It does everything well but rapids. My girlfriend liked the Glide so I got stuck with the Comet every time and it got old. She is fast and I just could not keep up. So I ordered the Emotion Bliss kayak for her. It is smooth, sexy, and fast. If the Comet is a jeep, and the Glide an Avalon, the Bliss is a two seat Lexus convertible. She looks good in it and it looks good under her. She is about 5'8" and 130 lbs soaking wet and that's important. If she were taller or weighed 30 lbs more she would be too big for it. The Bliss is thinner, longer, lower, and it is fast. I have used it but for me it's too low. I think a man is much more top heavy then a girl and as such the balance is off. I'm only 5'8", but weigh about 185 lbs, and it's too sporty for me. The Bliss needs a little more finesse as opposed to brute strength, and with a mans shoulders the weight is in the wrong place. It is not safe for rough water, but it's a ballerina when it's calm. I feel the Bliss is safe with the Glide out with it but would worry about it alone. So to sum it up: The Comet, great first kayak for a teenager, or for white water. Fits into my Ford Escape with the back shut. The Glide: Nice versatile, comfortable, safe, easy to paddle, fits into my escape with the back open. The Bliss: Sleek, sexy, nimble, longer yet. Not for boating in open water alone, but if you stay near the shore and have a petite build it's a dream. Oh yeah,I live in Florida now, not Philadelphia.
