NO SPOILERS REVIEW. PERFECT MOVIE TO PRACTICE FRENCH COMPREHENSION FOR KIDS 10 AND UP
NO SPOILERS REVIEW!If you can read the book, I would highly recommend to start there because while this movie does decent job and is relatively good, the book is even better, nothing surprising here, books are usually better then the movie in certain yet profound ways.I don't want to spoil the plot for you, if you want to know more, then other reviews will reveal it.I strongly encourage to see the movie. Worth the time.It is very funny plot and it is all very French, in many ways it is similar in character to the Americanclassics like Leave it to Beaver or Dennis the Manface but the humor is more upper lip and French stylerather then ha ha kind of humor, so if you are looking to get a sample of European flavor then this is great family fun that also requires some thinking as it is not as processed like most American products.FREQUENTLY SHOWN BY TEACHERS IN US FRENCH CLASS /CLASSROOMS AGE 10 AND UPIt is a movie that many French Teachers show here in the US to their students of the appropriate ageand the movie rating /age recommendations/ age restrictions for this movie is = 10 Years of agePERFECT PRACITCE FOR KIDS WHO ARE LEARNING FRENCH - 10 YEARS OLD AND UP.The film is VERY suitable for young children to practice their language skills. Because it is so engaging andso easy to comprehend even between the lines and with partial language command, it is truly remarkable and effective learning tool. Kids learn best if they are engaged, this movie does superb job.FUNNY PLOT - again, not revealing it, it is very easy and simple plot that is not hard to follow for kids who get hooked and want to know what will happen next.TEACHES ABOUT FRENCH CULTURE - It exposes the young viewers but also any viewer who is not familiar with French culture to some specific, however the movie is set few decades back, certain things convey to the modern times just the same as in any culture so not all of this is done with.INTERSTING LESSON IN FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS FOR ANY ADULT - Quite curious lesson here.FUN and ENGAGINGPRACTICAL TIPS that might be of value:There are two versions of the movie on this DVD:-Le Petit Nicolas (French)-and Little Nicolas (English). You can select your version at the beginning of the DVD.You can watch it in many different ways, you can watch it with French or English subtitles accordingto your language preferences and needs.TRULY GREAT TEACHING TOOL and VERY ENTERTAINING MOVIE - Absolutely love it, my family watched it few times and we always love to come back to it. It became our family classic.LOVE IT! ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

True to the Books!
This is based of the classic literature "Le Petit Nicolas." (more specifically the chapter "on a eu l'inspecteur." The young actors are so well chosen for the portrayal of their characters. Maxime Godart is the perfect choice for Nicolas. Nicolas is a young boy who thinks his parents are going to have a baby. He and his friends come up with multiple plans to deal with the new addition. Not surprisingly, their plans often go awry and they have to come up with new plans. In the meanwhile, the parents are dealing with Mr. Moucheboume and his wife coming over for dinner. Nicolas' mother does her best to try and be a "modern day woman," but seems to constantly asking more of her husband. Several of the adults from this movie also appear in Les Vacances du Petit Nicolas. The movie even has a cameo by Gérard Jugnot! This is a great representation of a very classic piece of French literature!

Helpful to English speakers learning French
Funny, charming and helpful to English speakers learning French. There are English subtitles. This family film is not that old but focuses on a very homogenous middle class social bubble - so not big-picture socially relevant or inclusive. It does, though, deal with young kids figuring out life and depending on each other for support. It is a glimpse into French, urban middle class life in the 1960s, but the view as seen through the eyes of the young hero of a children’s book.

Hysterically Funny!
I bought the DVD on Amazon in 2015 and have watched it at least 10 times with lots of different people. Even with French language and English subtitles, it's so funny. The story is adorable. Good, clean, fun film for any age audience., about a little boy named Nicolas, who thinks his new brother will replace him.

This movie is lots of fun!
This movie is terrific. I watched it with my 8 year old son (he is in French immersion) and we both enjoyed it. I am sure he did not understand every word, but the movie is quite funny even if you don't catch every word. If you have read any Petit Nicolas stories you will enjoy how they managed to weave so many individual episodes into one coherent and hilarious story. The movie is appropriate for a high school or college classroom, but while not offensive in any way, may not be appropriate in an elementary immersion classroom. There is one scene where the humor is based on Nicolas' mother getting drunk because she is nervous and trying to impress her husband's boss. I did not mind my son seeing this (since he does not know what drunk is, he thought she was just being silly). But I would not show it to his immersion class at elementary school. On the other hand, my French 1 college class thoroughly enjoyed the movie. If your students are reading Petit Nicolas they will really get a kick out of this movie.

Cute, Funny, Feel-good French Film
This is a French movie, so if you can't understand French, you're still in luck! There are English subtitles. In any event, this movie was very cute, lighthearted and just an all-around fun family-friendly comedy. I won't tell you what it's about because you can read that for yourself, but I will say that the acting was A++, the plot was adorable and the humorous moments really were quite funny.I am minoring in French, and we watched this movie in French class just before Thanksgiving break 2013. I immediately purchased it, I loved it that much! So if you are studying the French language, this will make a great edition to your French film library.

Loved this film.
Very funny film - with lots for the adults as well as the kids (I was a bit unsure who this film was aimed at some of the time). Highly recommended - if buying with kids in mind make sure they can handle the sub-titles. Some of the plot lines could go over smaller kids heads but it doesn't seem to matter. Warning - Allthough made recently this film is based on books set in the 50's and is definitely non-pc.

Worthy movie adaptation of the original book
Very funny movie that captured the mood of the original "Le Petit Nicolas" book by Sempé/Goscinni quite faithfully. The actress playing the Maitresse is particular interesting. The Agnon boy is really funny. Fans of Sempé's masterful illustrations (myself included) might find that Nicholas' mum and dad are a bit older and less attractive than they are portrayed in the books but the movie characters are still funny in their own ways. All in all this is a very enjoyable movie. The behind the scenes/making-of materials are nice too.My 8-yr-old son who has read the original books is also a big fan of this movie and is never tired of watching it repeatedly.I hope there is a blu-ray HD version of it one day!
