Nagoya Suzuki - The Right Quality At The Right Price
This rating is based on the perspective of a parent untrained in music, whose child has been taking violin lessons for 3 years, using a number of student violins rented and borrowed, and who understands that a student violin cannot even begin to be compared to professional violins. We rented violins from Ifshin and Schwann, and borrowed a German one from my brother. Before buying the Suzuki, we shopped at a violin store and listened to a couple of recommended violins in the $1,000 range, which of course sounded great. To my unschooled ears, the Suzuki sounds just as good. To my 12 year old daughter, there was no discernible difference either. Her violin teacher teased her that now she should not want to put her violin down at all during practice. A back-handed compliment but coming from her, a positive endorsement, given her pedigree. And oh yes, the bridge came not set up, rightly so, and the school music teacher helped out. Couldn't be more pleased with the Nagoya Suzuki. It meets our requirements in every sense - the right quality at the right price, delivered professionally.

Hopefully just this one.
The violin came quickly and well packaged. It had a really nice case and came with a bow and small block of rosin. This is where the good ends. The strings were loosely in place but on the wrong pegs. The bridge needed to be put in place. In the process of installing the bridge and tightening the strings, one broke. I replaced all the strings with a set of D'Addario Prelude Strings. The pegs held well and we were able to keep the violin in tune. We asked an experience violinist her opinion of the sound and she said it was dark but fine. But there was a vibration coming from the body when the E and A strings were played that we could not get rid of or live with. I know the instrument isn't a mutli-1000 dollar violin but the vibration was the deal breaker. We sent it back for a refund.

Nice beginning violin
I picked this up as a way to get back to playing the violin after a decade and so far it hasn't disappointed. Stays in tune while practicing. Looks and feels very nice. That being said, I don't have any comparison to a higher quality instrument as I used to rent mine, so while I like how it resonates when playing, it could be that others may find it lacking in overall tone. I would definitely recommend this to other beginning violists. Also, the instrument being made in Japan is great since there are probably some assurances made towards quality work.

This is a great "starter" instrument for a violin player to own
This is a great "starter" instrument for a violin player to own. I don't know much about violins, but the teacher said that it tuned well and sounded great!
