Makaw Video Perch Camera Mount Clamp with Ballhead and Quick Release for Digital Cameras, Camcorders & Spotting Scopes

Makaw Perch is very rugged and versatile - but has tooooo many adjustments. Looks simple in the ad but there are 7 adjustments just to attach the camera and secure the mount. Instructions are written to attach unit to a gulf back. Not what seller's pics show - but it will attach just about everywhere. Will have to see if it will stand the test of time.2015/09/24 - tried to use the mount for a surveillance camera. 1st Attempt...-Instructions are ok if you gulf Sellers ad never mentions instructions are for mounting to a gulf bag..... But the unit can be attached just about anywhere and there are a few problems that do need explaining.-found the jaws have a rubber type material on them to prevent scratching a surface...unfortunately when you tighten the mount as tight as you can get it - it will need to be re-tightened as you manipulate the other adjustments.-beware of how you mount the unit and place the arm - If the arm gets to close to the jaws tightening knob it will become difficult to tighten the clamp after it looses its grip. Arm has to be moved out of the way to re-tighten the jaws. And you will to need to readjust your camera sighting.-I moved the head so it was on the downside. Great - except the ball joint would not tighten up. Just flopped around. That was a stopper till I could figure that out. Once I sat down with the unit I found the the ball adjustment had to be tightened before removing the head and placing it on the underside.2015/09/26 - 2nd Attempt...-Clamp tightening still an issue - I may remove those rubber pads it I continue to have issues with loosening.-Arm still remains to be a big issue. The way I have it mounted, so adjustment knobs do not interfere with anything else, the arm covers the jaws tightening knob. But I managed to get it, I hope.Cons-Arm covers jaws tightening knob-Rubber pads on jaws-Ball needs to be adjusted before switching positions or adjusting the head.-If you move the camera slightly and the Camera mounting screws, which is on the underside of the quick release will come loose and the camera has to be remove, using the quick disconnect to tight the screw. Could be a better design for mounting the camera.Pros-Rugged - so far.-The quick disconnect for the camera mount is a nice feater - but see the con above for attaching the camera.

I video amateur play productions as a hobby. This clamp allowed me to mount a Sony AX100 Video cam to a basketball hoop for a production performed in a gymnasium. Adaptability/adjustability seems very good.

Great well built clamp ... but the ball head sucks. Have to loosen the base screw of the ball head to tighten the ball head & then re tighten the base screw ... very bad way to align your camera. I put on a different ball head.

Great product !! It works like it should

Works okay, jaws do not open enough, and is not very steady with a long range spotting scope.

Heavy duty bracket ! Ball end is quite heavy compared to rest of bracket but very sturdy.

Could be slightly sturdier but it gets the job done will order another soon
