First off to address the packaging and instructions complaints, there is only a poorly photo copied paper in the box whith a picture of how to put it together, granted it's pretty rediculous but it's not that hard to do, it's pretty much a matter of which handle goes on which part of the basket and you can pretty much figure it out. There also is no timing or temp instructions included on it which was the most frustrating part to me because I had to look it up online just to make sure. FYI I did 350 for about 1min. Now onto can you use it in your deep fryer. If you have a small fryer or single basket fryer you won't be able to use it, I have a presto double basket fryer and it worked in there but the very tops of the shells were not submerged in the oil....but it didn't seem to make a difference And my husband didn't complain about the shells....that should say it all! Lol! If you use it in a large pot it will work but keep in mind there needs to be room to place the basket in with the handles. You also need 1 gal of oil for this, in the fryer and the pot. Keep in mind you can re/use frying oil upto 3 months. My biggest issue was the tortillas breaking. When I put the tortillas in the basket and pushed them down, before I could close the lid the tortillas split in half. My solution...I gently places them in the maker without pressing them down into the form, quickly place the top of the maker onto the shells and put in the oil immediately, if you don't put it in the oil immediately they will break! When I did this I fried them for 1min and they came out crunchy and perfect and were extremely yummy and easy! Hope this helps! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Taco Mama is hinged *by K***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 2, 2015* I'm happy with this purchase, it does what I wanted it to do, which was fry already filled, folded, and frozen homemade tacos similar to Jack in the Box style. However, one aspect of the construction was a surprise to me, Taco Mama is hinged. These hinges are visible in the box photo on two of the far-side peaks. This means the unit did not operate as I originally envisioned, however it still worked fine.I was also concerned about the size. I use a round, stainless-steel stock pot for frying which is approximately 10.5" in diameter with 8.5" high sides. I was concerned Taco Mama's handles might not be long enough to allow the unit to reach the bottom: they measure 7.5" of pot-height clearance, thus they are 1" short for our fryer, but Taco Mama just barely seems to work without needing to add much extra oil. ### ⭐⭐⭐ This rating is subject to change *by P***E on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 18, 2016* After first use I am ready to return it. I bought this item because the other taco fryer baskets are to big for home fryers without modifying. I own the Waring® DF280 Deep Fryer.What is good: It fits in the fryerWhat is bad: The shells tear in half when you put them in the basket before you fry them. This could be a corn tortilla brand issue. I used La Banderita yellow corn tortillas last night. Today I will use Mission white and yellow corn tortillas to see if this is the issue. Hopefully this fixes it because it fits in the fryer perfectly.If I were Taco Mama, I would turn this basket into a 3 taco fryer and decrease the sharp v angle of the fold in the basket into more of a u shape.
