Taco Mama

So I have some issues with this but I do like it! First off to address the packaging and instructions complaints, there is only a poorly photo copied paper in the box whith a picture of how to put it together, granted it's pretty rediculous but it's not that hard to do, it's pretty much a matter of which handle goes on which part of the basket and you can pretty much figure it out. There also is no timing or temp instructions included on it which was the most frustrating part to me because I had to look it up online just to make sure. FYI I did 350 for about 1min. Now onto can you use it in your deep fryer. If you have a small fryer or single basket fryer you won't be able to use it, I have a presto double basket fryer and it worked in there but the very tops of the shells were not submerged in the oil....but it didn't seem to make a difference And my husband didn't complain about the shells....that should say it all! Lol! If you use it in a large pot it will work but keep in mind there needs to be room to place the basket in with the handles. You also need 1 gal of oil for this, in the fryer and the pot. Keep in mind you can re/use frying oil upto 3 months. My biggest issue was the tortillas breaking. When I put the tortillas in the basket and pushed them down, before I could close the lid the tortillas split in half. My solution...I gently places them in the maker without pressing them down into the form, quickly place the top of the maker onto the shells and put in the oil immediately, if you don't put it in the oil immediately they will break! When I did this I fried them for 1min and they came out crunchy and perfect and were extremely yummy and easy! Hope this helps!

I'm happy with this purchase, it does what I wanted it to do, which was fry already filled, folded, and frozen homemade tacos similar to Jack in the Box style. However, one aspect of the construction was a surprise to me, Taco Mama is hinged. These hinges are visible in the box photo on two of the far-side peaks. This means the unit did not operate as I originally envisioned, however it still worked fine.I was also concerned about the size. I use a round, stainless-steel stock pot for frying which is approximately 10.5" in diameter with 8.5" high sides. I was concerned Taco Mama's handles might not be long enough to allow the unit to reach the bottom: they measure 7.5" of pot-height clearance, thus they are 1" short for our fryer, but Taco Mama just barely seems to work without needing to add much extra oil.

After first use I am ready to return it. I bought this item because the other taco fryer baskets are to big for home fryers without modifying. I own the Waring® DF280 Deep Fryer.What is good: It fits in the fryerWhat is bad: The shells tear in half when you put them in the basket before you fry them. This could be a corn tortilla brand issue. I used La Banderita yellow corn tortillas last night. Today I will use Mission white and yellow corn tortillas to see if this is the issue. Hopefully this fixes it because it fits in the fryer perfectly.If I were Taco Mama, I would turn this basket into a 3 taco fryer and decrease the sharp v angle of the fold in the basket into more of a u shape. This would make the dry tortillas less prone to tearing.

I love Mexican food, especially tacos, so when my wife and I saw this, we were excited, no more stale, bland tasting taco shells that you but at the grocery store for an inflated price. The order was received on the date as promised, however it did not come in the box as pictured. Also, the shipping cost was way too high. I mean come on, $13.00 shipping charges for a small light weight item that sells for $20.00. That's ridiculous. It came in a plain brown cardboard box and had one sheet of limited poorly written instructions. After we finally figured out how to assemble the unit, we decided to try it out. First of all, the instructions didn't mention what temperature to have your oil at for deep frying, so we decided to try 350 degrees and that seems to work okay. One of the hinges on our unit is bent or out of alignment, so the upper and lower baskets don't mesh properly, but we were able to make it work. The handles as well as the rest of the unit are of poor design and quality. The concept is a good one, but they need to send this back to the engineers to tweak the design and increase the standards of their quality control. We are very disappointed in our purchase and I would not recommend this to anyone.

Wish the bend angle wasn't quite so pointed. Results in taco shell cracking, won't hold filling as well. Perhaps a redesign with a more U-shaped taco versus the extreme "V"? Other than that, we love this! Speeds up Taco night with less time spent bending individual shells. We typically eat at least 18-20 tacos for our family of 4. Nothing beats a fresh taco shell! Taco Mama fits my Presto fryer. Carefully measure your fryer first to make sure it will fit.

The product appears to be well made and it does in fact have 4 slots for making tacos. Sadly it will not fit down into your frydaddy sized fryers. I haven't used the product as I'm returning it, but I wanted to make sure everyone knew that the quality of the product appears to be good. -1 star as taco molds do appear to be quite "skinny" compared with what I've seen on other molds elsewhere (not on amazon).

I Love this! Had a taco Birthday party with family, and the thought of standing and frying one shell at a time wasn't a nice thought! Got this with it's free 2 day shipping, and couldn't be happier with it. I found it to be quite sturdy, Perfectly fried 4 taco shells at a time, in no time at all! I had no problem with it fitting in my 5 quart dutch oven...I actually have 2 different styles of 5 quart dutch oven and it fit in both of them very nicely! My daughters helped and also thought it was fantastic, and want one for their homes! Thank you Taco Mama! I highly recommend this lovely kitchen helper!

The Taco Mama is a great way to speed up the taco shell cooking process. My only issue is some cracking along the bottom curve when trying to get a real crunchy shell. If the bottom curve was a little more rounded out the Taco Mama would be perfect, but the benefit of speed cooking taco shells far outweighs the occasional shell cracking.
