Pearson Electric Rope Cutter

As camp director for nearly two-hundred kids this summer we had a climbing course, zip lines, rappelling and more to prepare for. When planning the gear for our camp, I needed to cut ropes, straps and mule tape for the various projects. As anyone knows, you really need the ends burnt on these types of cuts to help keep the ropes in better shape. I decided to get this cutter and honest it works so well and easy that it really was a great decision.The cutter is very solid, it came in a small box and all I had to do before using it was attach the blade by bolting it to the rods. When it's turned on, it takes about 15 seconds to get hot enough to cut, if you wait longer it will actually get red hot! It cuts through all of the ropes, including 10m climbing rope easily and quickly. With flat straps if the straps are wider than the cutter then start on an edge and feed it in straight. With larger climbing ropes I would twist it as I cut to give it a nice even finish.My unit is the light grey color, not the darker one that shows in some of the links. One suggestion is to mount it on a small board to give it a little more stability. That way if you push or pull too hard it won't wobble on you. I've never had it tip over, it actually cuts so quickly and easily that it wasn't ever at risk of that.5 stars, this is clearly a lifetime piece that will serve me will as often as I ever need to cut rope.

Works like a charm, every time. Takes abotu 15 seconds to heat up all the way. It's stable and heavy enough to sit by itself on my desk without moving around, and the large power switch is easy to flick off when you're holding the 2 ends you just cut.

When I tried this product it worked as advertised. It cut paracord with no problem which is what I mainly use it for. There were no burn marks on either end of the cut. I used it to trim a nylon web dog collar with the same good result. The directions stated that the blade or connectors might be a little warped and these were. It is no problem to carefully straighten by hand while the cutter is cold. Be careful though, the blade is sharp. The ones on my unit are straight now and there is no issue. The blade does glow a bit when hot. The copper prongs for connecting the blade to the other prongs is an excellent heat conductor. If needed I would by this product again.

So I have had this unit since 2016 for personal use as I am an avid sailor. It has always been very slow to heat up and slow to cut even 1/4" line. I actually called the manufacturer, Pearson Industries ,about it and they sold me a new transform AND a new blade. Well, it worked the same. Slow and not hot enough. Its headed for the garbage pile . I recently ordered a 160 watt unit from another manufacturer.

This thing works great. I use it for paracord. It is a life saver. It takes about 45 seconds to fully heat up, but it will start cutting through paracord in about 20 seconds. Cuts is and fuses it at once. I did have to stick from non-slip feet onto the bottom to keep it from moving around on my table. It is capable of being screwed/bolted down but I needed it to be mobile so I could move it out of my way when I am working on other things. I have been using it for a couple months now and it is still going strong. I probably have made about 2500-3000 cuts through paracord. The quality seems unsurpassed.

working good, cold does effect unit. I would buy again from company.

it said it came with 2 blades and i got only one, to put them in was a pain since it was all out of linemade in china CHEAPLY made
