Smart Alto Recorder
I purchased the Smart Alto BHY-238BW wood simulated recorder to add to my collection. I compared it with Zen-On, Aulos, Yamaha, Woodnote, all Alto. First, it was easy to play and the low F was not a problem. I found the tone to be close to the Zen-On. As long as you don't overblow it has a good sound and the intonation seems to fairly accurate. It is a great instrument for beginners and intermediate players and will work well in ensembles for church groups and other non-professionals who enjoy playing together. Of course, as with any instrument, the beauty of the sound comes from the level of the artist.

Terrible intonation
I am not a particularly accomplished recorder player, so maybe I just don't know how to get it to work right. I think the tone is pretty and I've been mostly enjoying playing it. But the intonation is terrible. The low F is right in tune with my pitch pipe, but the scale goes flat quickly, and by the time you get to the second F, the thing is an actual whole entire half step flat. I can bend the note into tune by blowing really hard, but then I lose the pretty tone and any control over dynamics. What that means is that I basically can't use this to play ensembles, which was my original purpose in getting it. I wanted to do duets with my Bb-instrument-learning kids, so I thought an alto recorder would give me just the range I needed. But what is the use if I'm always out of tune with them? And for the record (no pun intended), I have not experienced this kind of intonation issue with my garden variety cheap soprano recorders.

A very nice recorder.
I like this a lot. It is very pretty with its wood grain look and the recorders tone is pleasant to hear. It shipped very quickly and came in good condition/ packaging. Fingering chart, case, joint cream and cleaning rod were included.

Smart Money Says Buy This Alto Recorder
Great recorder! ABS resin body like the more expensive Yamaha. Easy to play with good intonation. Upper register pipes out nicely. No problems, even hitting high "D". Lower register sounds rich and clear. It doesn't have the professional look of a wooden recorder but it plays like one.

High Quality, Nice Tone
This item is well represented my the photo and description. This was a Christmas gift for a musician, and they were very impressed with the quality. A very nice instrument for a reasonable price.

I absolutely love this recorder
I absolutely love this recorder. I like to play Native American style flute music and this recorder allows me to do that because of being keyed in the key of F unlike my soprano which is in C. Therefore I can get those lower tones that are mandatory to play Native American flute music on recorder.

Very Nice Recorder for the Price
I am really happy with this recorder. The tone is pretty good. The appearance of the simulated wood plastic is OK. The three parts fit together snugly, but you can still easily disassemble them to clean the inside.

Good Recorder
This has a little richer tone than the plastic types. The finger spacing is a bit more of a stretch, but I know it has to be that way in order to be an alto.
