Joe Pass Omnibook: for C Instruments Plastic Comb – Illustrated, July 1, 2015

This Omnibook is my favorite next to the John Coltrane Eb Omnibook . . . .The tabs really saved me on this one due to all the chord parts written in notation . . . .I'm learning while I play . . . ..I had a hard time with the Charlie Parker Omnibook . . . .it didn't seem to match the original solos . . . .but I didn't delve deeper into the book . . .so it might be something a guitarist would want . . . .I think the Miles Davis Omnibook is worth getting . . .I haven't played anything, yet . . .but I looked through it and what I found looked pretty good . . . .I bought the Bill Evans Omnibook . . .and man . . .I'll try to follow the treble clef . . .but I'm ready to read some of the bass clef on guitar . . .we shall see . . .Hiromi has a book that's not an Omnibook but pretty much transcribes most of her solos in A Place to Be . . .You might like it if you don't mind reading bass to treble clef . . . .but this Joe Pass Omnibook is really nice . . . .You'll like the tabs . . . .

This review for now is just from flipping through the pages and following along to the recorded track.This book uses key signatures as opposed to accidentals. It does not include the melody section, rather the notation starts right at Joe's solo. At the top it gives you what time in the recording this is. One exception I found was for Giant Steps, it is transcribed entirely. Also for every tune, when Joe uses chords in his solo, the entire chord played is also transcribed. The other omnibooks I have feature single note instruments so this is a marked difference.A part of me really wishes they didn't include tabs. But another part of me sees how impracticable that would be for this style of playing. This is not like classical guitar where you use open strings and finger a specific pattern. This is more runs up and down the fretboard. But it's pretty much impossible to not be influenced by the tablature when it's right in front of you and takes away the satisfaction you get when you figure it out on your own.

Great TranScription’s one feature is that the transcriber includes chords that complement passes solos so a lot of sub harmonies are introduced

Excellent transcriptions of Joe Pass solos. EBook has very little features. You can only flip pages. Would've liked to have a pdf copy or print option for better study.

My only criticisms are how the Kindle version of the book works with my device.When I got this product, I had a kind of fantasy that I would be able to put my tablet on the music stand, call up the book, and it would be just like having a music book on the stand.... but better. In reality, there are some problems with controlling the zoom, and with changing pages once you have the music maximized.This may be because I am not using a Galaxy Tab A instead of an Amazon device.

Bellissimo libro con molte delle trascrizioni di Joe Pass.Joe Pass secondo me insieme a Wes Montgomery uno dei più grandi chitarristi jazz della storia!In questo libro si vedono molte delle sue tecniche predilette la sua pennatta ,e la sua tecnica prediletta nei Virtuosoil figerstyle Jazz e i legati.Se volete approfondire il chitarrismo jazz questo è un must have!

Ich bin beeindruckt von der aufwändigen Arbeit der Autoren. Denn obwohl die Stücke unvollständig verschriftlicht sind als Noten und TABs, was dem enormen Spieltempo von Joe Pass mit seinen 1000en Notenläufen geschuldet ist und daher wohl dem Anspruch der Autoren nur seine Soli abzudrucken, kommt schon ein gigantisches Buch entsprechend einem viertel Paket Kopierpapier dabei raus. Das Buch in DIN-A4 Format hat in der riesigen Plastikspiralbindung zwar nicht die beste Haptik, aber der Inhalt überzeugt. Wichtig: Es ist "nur" ein Sammelsurium von saubersten Transkriptionen, ausdrücklich kein Lehrbuch, sodass ich überlege die Stücke mit einem Gitarrenlehrer durchzugehen und Fragen zu klären wie: Weshalb wird welcher Lick gespielt? Welche Bebop-Skala liegt zugrunde? Welche Akkorde passen dazu? Zur Theorie dahinter fehlt nämlich jede Erklärung. Dennoch: Joe Pass Licks lernen ist immer gut, auch wenn man beim Kauf bedenken sollte, dass das Niveau der Lieder sehr hoch und das Tempo meist "very fast" ist.

The transcriptions are really good. Flawless, and for whom doesn't read music there is also TABs. I find it a really godd work to get into the outstanding Joe's magic guitar. Highly recommended.

So ein Buch habe ich schon lange gesucht - einfach super. Kann ich wirklich sehr gut weiter empfehlen. Preis ist auch in Ordnung.
