Good, accessible refresher but wont tell you how to use SPSS
I bought this book as it was a recommended text for my course. It is clear, concise and well-written. It starts with an introduction to the research process & philosophical issues, then talks about how you would do research (in terms of developing a research question and writing up a proposal) before talking about quantitative and qualitative research along with their differing methods. It also talks about participants, ethical issues, things to be aware of when doing data analysis and the write-up.It was a great refresher of my undergraduate years and helped me understand why you would choose x method for x research question. However, it does not contain any statistical information and does not explain what statistical method you would use and why - so I had to buy another book for that which worked out pretty pricey! In summation, this book literally talks you through the stages of research from beginning to end, but wont help with data analysis and interpretation from a statistical point of view.

Accessible and relevant
As a psychology trainee this book has been invaluable to freshen up my undergrad research knowledge. This book is not only useful for undergrads but trainees and trained psychologists, as it covers topics such as research design and service evaluation. The book is well written (for me to say this about a research book is something!) and highly relevant to any psychologist in practice.

Extremely poor quality of writing
This book is very poorly written and edited. There is some useful information, but the quality of the writing is disturbingly poor.
