Value for your money
You want a dropper post for your steel framed mountain bike, but you don't want to spend a lot of money. This is it.There aren't a lot of options in the 27.2mm field, and generally they're all over $200.This one is less than $100. Why? Because it's simple, basic, and relatively cheaply made. That said, it has so far held up to my 290 pounds of weight just fine.I love mountain biking, but I'm not exactly hardcore. So getting a dropper post seemed like a luxury I didn't need. But I got tired of the compromise position I left my saddle in all the time. It was too low to be efficient on my rides to and from the trails. It was a little too high for ideal rides on the trails. Neither of those things was a big deal. Certainly it wasn't worth spending $200 to solve. But then I ran across this seatpost and decided to take a chance on it. I'm glad I did. It's really just a spring-loaded shaft with a pin through it. The pin is pulled back by the lever to allow the post to go up or down. When you think of it that way, you understand why it's cheap. There are not hydraulics in it. The materials are all very basic. This isn't super-light titanium. It doesn't have infinite adjustability. If you need those things, go buy the expensive post. It's probably worth it to you.It was easy to install. My saddle went on with no issues. The lever had a long enough cable to route to where my left thumb could reach it (21" framed Salsa El Mariachi). It didn't come with any zip ties to secure the cable, but I have plenty of those.I'm pretty sure this thing will not stand up to a huge amount of abuse. I'm sure it will wear out faster than a more expensive option. But as I said - 290 pounds of rider didn't phase it. It's easy to move up and down. I'm really happy with it.

Good for the Money.
Needed a seat dropper for a bike I keep at a friend's out in the Columbia River Gorge and didn't want to spend a lot as the bike is only for vacations and has a 27.2mm post - which is not compatible with my other bike back home - so buying a really good/expensive dropper and taking it back an forth wasn't an option. This fit the bill. Simple to install, simple spring mechanism with a spring loaded pin that goes into a hole on the internal shaft), and the activation knob worked well. Worked well for my last ride out there (should have bought it earlier) - so not sure about reliability, but it's so simple that I can't see what could go wrong.. Cons are that there are only two lowering settings (but you could probably drill another hole between 0 and 55mm - which is what I might do). There is a bit of wobble, but I think it goes away when you have weight on it. Either way, I didn't notice and not having to get off and drop the seat was great. Overall good for the money.

It's not fancy as far as droppers go, but compared to a standard post it's awesome! For my usage I needed a shim to fit the Trek bike I'm using, but no issues there. It was simple to install, route the cable and secure the lever. I like that the lever can be pushed/pulled in any direction the activate the post. The post does need pressure before it moves so a little tap from your bum will get it to move once the lever is moved. There is a slight wiggle when it's locked, but it's unnoticeable when seated. All in all it does what it says it does and it looks good too.

Best Buy
Did I need a dropper seat post, not really, but at this price I could not resist. It is nice to drop the seat before a steep drop. I can keep more speed and not worry about going over the bars. The seat operates as advertised. I have no surprise when raising the seat because you need to put a little weight on the seat to release the latch. Wish it came in green but red is the only color available.

Not smooth and fast like hydraulic or pneumatic posts
Can't be beat for the price. It works and has not failed me yet. 3 positions, fully extended, middle and all the way down. Not smooth and fast like hydraulic or pneumatic posts. Cable operated and the joystick type actuating lever that will work in any direction, sweet.

It worked pretty well until it didn't
It worked pretty well until it didn't. The hardware that mounts the saddle to the post is pretty cheap and after using it for three months it snapped as I was descending. I can probably fix it by finding some new parts at the hardware store.I like the design, just wish better parts had been used. This is my usual complaint with anything bike-related!
