Do you like music...are you depressed, or English, or depressed about being in England?
This is a great English band, and by English I mean from England, not speaking in English, which ironically they do! The Furs (as many fans call them, as well as "The Psychedelic Furs") are low-key, and brooding in their style and if you are depressed and sad, they will help you dive perhaps even deeper into that mindset to be able to fully become one with your sadness. If, however, like me, however, you are more often looking for something to mellow you out and have as mood music in the backgroud this excellent music and I have two copies of this album. The first copy was a tape and now that tapes are so 1980s and so on..., I had to break down and buy the CD so I could put it on my computer (lap and desk, top) so I could listen more. Note: I actually put it IN the computer for the computer illererate, not ON it). By the way don't let the name Psychedelic Furs turn you off because if you are reading this, you have listened to the band before and so have other, more accurate, ways to judge them as a band. I guess (hope) you could be reading this as a friend just to give me votes so someday... I can be a top 1000 reviewer and be a somebody...please vote...thanks. so overall, this is a great album and better than some of the greatest hits stuff I bought from the Furs, which I think is...interesing, that I would think that. so take care and remember, it's your parade and you get to make desicions about it...what will be your theme music???With care,Sam

Lost Classic
Some great tunes here. Produced by Dave Allen who was so important with the Cure. Not radio friendly but great for fans. Too bad they morphed into something else in 2011. Keep the dream alive.

My Favorite from The Psychedelic Furs
Great CD and my favorite from The Psychedelic Furs. I wore this out on cassette years ago and needed to replace / update my CD collection. Arrived timely and intact.

No regrets!
Another gem from The Psychedelic Furs. Perhaps the songs are a bit moodier than their earlier works, but the Butler brothers continue to deliver great songs on Book of Days. You won't be disappointed!

One You Probably Missed
This gem seemed to instantly fade into an undeserved obscurity, perhaps because fans of their earlier work found Midnight to Midnight so disappointing that they had moved on, while those who were introduced to the Furs with Midnight to Midnight without exploring the earlier stuff might have found this follow-up a bit baffling. For me, the Psychedelic Furs' best albums are their first two, the eponymous debut and Talk Talk Talk. I think most fans would rank one of those as #1 and the other #1-A. I would put Book of Dreams as #3 behind these two, as it has become one I reach for often and is one of the few albums by any artist that I own on both vinyl and CD.There are many tracks on this album that would be at home on the Furs' debut. Songs are darker, moodier, and more challenging for the listener. Beginning with their third album, Forever Now, and the ouster of Duncan Kilburn and Roger Morris, the band had been stripped down to Richard Butler (vocals), John Ashton (guitar), Tim Butler (bass), and Vince Ely (drums), the latter of whom left for a couple albums and returned for this one, and reliance on guest musicians had been heavy. On this album, guest musicians are credited but with no information on what they may have played. In any case, I hear less sax, horns, and keyboards on this album than any previous Furs release, and it seems that it's up to the core band to do more to fill the sound. However they did it, it sure works throughout the album. Ashton's jagged, swirling guitar runs weave a gloriously noisy groove that's the backdrop for most of the songs. Tim Butler's bass has never sounded more melodic to me. It all fits nicely around Richard Butler's usual hoarse speak-singing. Standout cuts are "Entertain Me," a fast-tempo tune with Richard Butler's vocals sounding as menacing as ever, "Torch," sort of a Celtic ballad with busy acoustic guitar and deft cello that provides a little break from the layers of sound that run through the other songs, and "House," another fast one, the catchiest melody and most accessible song in the bunch. If you gave up on the Furs after Midnight to Midnight, grab this one and get reacquainted with everything you loved about the group.

Furs at their Best
I recently went back to my Furs collection to listen. Somehow when I think of the Furs I think of this record. This one still sounds fresh and personal to me. Maybe because at the time it was released, I thought I was the only person who heard it- it wasn't very popular. There is a melancholy power to this album and the textures of guitars droning and flowing especially on "book of days" still amazes and satisfies. It's clear that this record was a backlash to the glossy pop of Midnight to Midnight. Almost a kind of "FU we didn't sell out". I all I can say is thank you! This one and World Outside are fantastic albums.

Another take on an exceptional band
I've bought a few Furs CDs recently mainly because the ones I have had have gone in to the abyss of my current CD collection which is now in to thousands and the prices of the ones I have purchased on the Amazon site wouldn't break the bank. This was one of my least favourite albums first time round but I have to say their move away from the commercial stuff they were producing actually reminds you of how good the band were when stripped down to the basics. Don't get me wrong Mirror Moves is still one of my favourite albums from the era but this just gives you another take on an exceptional band. All in all a good album at a good price.

Still not the correct LP in the sleeve...
If you ever wonder how much record companies care about us customers, look no further than this release. They botched the LP pressing, so if you expect "Book of Days" you'll actually receive "World Outside." They know about this mix up but never fixed it (to my knowledge) and are still selling the LPs "as is." Crap pressing as well, as can be expected from GZ in the Czech Republic. Low-end quality for an exceptional band and album.

Always good but not thier best.
I love all things furs. I think this album is not thier best but if you are a furs fan you will enjoy. I wont reveiw the music but will coment on the product. Postage from Japan was fast and the booket is partly printed in Japanese. It's cheap so why not get yourself a Japanese version for a change. Kinda cool. Otherwise no difference from the UK version.

under the radar
a furs album that had completely passed me by, (god knows how I missed it first time round?)completes the collection for me and it's like having a brand new release from the band and I love it.
