Great for achy joints, but poor longevity depending on exercise frequency/intensity
TLDR: I've had this yoga mat for 6 months now, and I love it! Arrived as expected. The thickness is great; the 6' length, very helpful; the carrying strap, an added bonus; black color, not great for outdoor yoga; deteriorates somewhat faster than expected (see pics). While I would not buy this particular mat again, it gets the job done with low frequency exercise.Note: Since this is my first mat, I don't have other products to which I can compare this one.I'm a college student who got really into yoga last year. I decided to buy my own mat when I started doing yoga outside of classes at our athletic facility. For someone so young, I have a surprising number of aches in my muscles and joints, so going for the thicker (1/4") mat was a no-brainer. The mats provided by the athletic facility were 6', which spoiled me into thinking I needed that length. Having that extra room is such a luxury!Heart Centered Yoga makes a quality mat! The two patterns on the front and back are genius! The back pattern definitely help stick the product to hardwood floors (not so much with grass/carpet). The front pattern does a pretty effective job of stabilizing you. There are still times when I feel myself slipping, but I don't think that's avoidable with any mat. I've never tried hot yoga, but I'd predict this mat would be really slippery. Using the mat outside in the sun made the surface uncomfortably hot. Plus, my sweating made the surface somewhat slippery. That just helps to strengthen your balance, I suppose? As far as integrity goes, this mat somewhat fails. For the first 3 months, I used the mat 2 times a week, and it showed little wear. The last 3 months, I used it up to 4 or 5 times a week. Mountain climbers and any other hop-switching of the feet really tear into the soft material of the mat. These abrasions make cleaning somewhat difficult because I fear I'm rubbing off more pieces from the mat. The university's mats are a lot thinner and don't show the same wear, so perhaps that's what you give up with a thicker mat? I also noticed that the mat turns sort of ashy from skin particles falling off during workouts. It's really noticeable on the black, which is a little gross. The carrying strap was perfect for toting the mat around to classes, as well as storage -- so glad I didn't waste my money on a carrying case or backpack. Other reviewers point out the smell of the mat on arrival, so what the heck -- not a noxious odor, but definitely a smell the first week.Heart Centered Yoga provided me with a great first-time mat. I've learned that I need a mat similar to this in a lighter color and with sturdier material.

meh, not the perfect mat
Like other reviewers, I've found this mat incredibly slippery. I did some googling though and I guess that is common with new mats, just wash with castile soap, then wipe down with apple cider vinegar. I haven't had time to do that yet but that's my plan. Otherwise be prepared to be in downward dog just watching your feet slip back. So annoying. This does have a new mat smell that is fairly strong, again, hoping the castile soap and vinegar will take care of that too. Airing it out for 24 hrs didn't do much to help. So I replaced an old smelly mat with a new smelly mat.I have sensitive knees and elbows and thought that going with a thick mat would be the best. I'm wishing I had gone with a slightly thinner mat. This one is so squishy it seems to effect poses and stability. I'm not sure what the happy medium is between the bone-crushing thin mats and this, but I'll keep looking. As long as I can get the slippery coat off this, I'll stick with it for awhile. If I can't get the slippery off, it's unusable. I'll update my review when I do that.

Not good for me, but very nice product.
I was excited about this mat. It's ok, but the memory foam is so soft that it doesn't support any weight, so it becomes extremely flat under any weight. The shape restores eventually, but this does no good for me practicing on wooden floors. There needs to be more support. I'm bummed because I don't even think I can use this mat now. I have wooden floors at home and at my Bikram studio. One nice thing about it is that I don't seem to slip on it, and it doesn't have a rubbery smell like so many other mats.** I contacted the company and let them know the product didn't work, and the customer service was SO good that I had to edit my review. The gentleman was so kind and helpful and went out of his way to make sure I was happy. I will definitely be giving this company my business again.

Not good for yoga
I am not sure how this product received so many good reviews but unfortunately it did not work for me. First of all I don't think this is a yoga mat and there is no way it is usable for any of the yoga poses. It is extremely slippery that my foot kept kept sliding off the mat and I had to continue on the floor instead. It looks thick yes but it is also useless because it is just a memory foam. The moment you start your yoga pose, you sink in it and mat becomes completely flat that actually hurts your foot or knees. It might be good for different purposes but definitely wasted my entire hour of yoga class. I do not recommend this to anyone.

Quality!
This yoga mat is perfect. It has just the right thickness, length and width. The mat grips well and works well with yoga mat towel covers also. We've used yoga blocks on it also and they don't slip on it either. The mat rolls up easily, is lightweight and the carry strap is a useful bonus. The mat is strong. Our naughty 75 pound dog, with huge gargoyle sharp claws, escaped into the yoga room and jumped all over the yoga mat and surprisingly there was no damage to its surface. This mat deserves 5 stars, we've used it a lot since receipt of it. We bought this mat as promotional good and this is our experience of using it.

I like it a lot but the mat tore on the first use. I was using this with the Insanity workout during the yoga moves. Other than the small rips, it is a very nice mat.

Slippery when wet.
I sweat a lot during yoga and while the mat itself is comfortable, it gets slippery once it's wet. I'll continue to use it until I find a better replacement.
