That is the way it works
If I could, I would like to give this seller a -1 star and another -1 to Amazon.I had ordered an exercise bench from Amazon. The delivery was slated for May 8-June 1. I finally received the bench on June 26th. When the bench arrived, the whole package had a hole on top, the instruction manual was in German with no English translation, some items did not fit their slots, the wrench to tighten the nut was the wrong one, the whole structure was loose and shaky and the seat had a ?large slash of paint on one side.I had wanted to apply for a refund.However the last date to return the bench was on June 7th.I contacted Amazon and they in turn contacted the seller (Huakong).Upon the seller’s request I sent 8 images of the defective and damaged product after which the seller wanted me to return the item to a warehouse in Oregon.Since no mechanism for a return label was provided,I called Amazon customer service. I asked them as to why I had to pay for returning the product when it was not my fault. Amazon again contacted the seller who in turn wanted me to send the photographs again. After yet another interaction with the Amazon customer service, I received the following message from the seller “ Sorry to provide photos again, apply for return request and will give return label” . I asked Amazon for a refund. Paying for the return would make the total cost exceed the stated cost price of the product.By now, I was confused, angry and frustrated. Nobody from Amazon clarified either. I called Amazon customer care. The representative[Jovalyah]said that the seller was pretending that he did not understand my problem.Upon my insistence, he put me in touch with the supervisor who told me that the behavior of the seller was unacceptable and that she would escalate the matter and file a claim with A-Z guarantee.Again, at no point did anybody tell me that I had done anything wrong.Matter of fact, I have an email from a customer service representative Calvin P which states that I had followed due procedure and had done the correct thing.I had been asked to wait for 48 hours. When nobody called, I called Amazon again. I was told that A-Z guarantee was in process and I had to wait for 1-2 business days for an answer. When I received no answer, I called Amazon again on 10th of July.This time I was put touch with supervisor”Ethan”I explained to Ethan I didn't see why I had to pay to return the product.His answer “ That is the way it works”I repeatedly asked him to mail me the policy which stated that I had to pay to return the defective item.Hi answer was the same “ That is the it works”I hung up at that point.One week later I bought a home gym[HFT] which came with a great exercise bench. I bought this a couple of miles from home.It came with lifetime warranty and most importantly ,I could talk to/meet an actual person If I had a problem with the product(not some voice at the other end of the phone)I am an Amazon prime member and customer since 2016 and this is the way Amazon treated me.I had learnt an important lesson - It is best NOT to buy from an international seller or an online portal unless the product is small [like a book]or locally unavailable. Amazon does not back its customers. If the seller is from China then good luck with your money and the product you ordered.
