Two CD reissue. Live was the final album by fusion band Return to Forever. It was recorded live at the Palladium in New York City on May 20 1977 as part of the Musicmagic tour to support the album of the same name. This was the only tour to feature the Musicmagic (1977) lineup, which included original members Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, and Joe Farrell, along with a newly added member, Chick Corea's wife, Gayle Moran on vocals, piano and organ, and a six-piece horn section.

Very nice music
Chick Corea formed the Return to Forever group and recorded seven CDs. This recording is a LIVE edition and recorded in 1977 - at the end of RTF. There were some lineup changes in these seven recordings and this one does not include my favorite lineup of Corea/Clarke/DiMeola/White; however, Corea and Clarke are on this release with others. As to the music? I'm a fan of Chick Corea's music and especially during those days of RTF. So, to me, there isn't a bad song on this CD.Recommended!

Liberating and exhilarant music
My favorite jazz act of all time -- so glad to finally obtain a complete (enough) version of this live set. Having seen&heard them live in concert during their MUSICMAGIC tour, and Chick live in other concerts, I am always returning to their music. Fast, slow, soft, hard -- doesn't matter. This set dazzles no less than any previous experience, only you get more. Their jamming is first rate. 40.0 megatons of the most liberating and exhilarant music ever created! When I put this on to hear, I often replay it for days!

Open up your ears
Different sound than "Romantic Warrior"? Oh yes. Way!! Different band (Still Stanley though - a big plus. Also, Joe Farrell is back). Different sound (No guitar; brass and vocals added). But like Miles, Chick is "forever" challenging us, to open up our ears. Hard to find, but well worth it. (One draw though on the cd: edited-down versions -from the original vinyl release - of "The Musician" and "So Long Mickey Mouse". This was done to keep the package at a 2-disc-set.)

Not as good as I hoped
It's a great set from RTF, but it took a lot of processing to make this sound right.

Gotta Love Humans!
This was replacement for a gift given to me by my high school teacher. One of my prize possessions was lifted by a classmate who pleaded the fifth after showing up on Facebook and when questioned completely denied ever borrowing it and running off to New York. Gotta Love Humans !

RTF Live
Great concert. Bought the 4-LP set in the late '70s. Glad to find it on CD.

Not the complete concert
The CD version does not contain the complete concert, even though that is the title of the CD. There is about 30 minutes missing. There was a 3 CD set from Japan that contained the whole concert, but that is no long available. This originally came out as 4 LP boxset. The boxset was not available for long and was hard to get. There was also a single LP sampler of the concert which was around much longer. The total time of the 4 LP boxset was around 180 minutes. The max time of a CD is 80 minutes (or 160 minutes for a two CD set). So, there is no way they could get the whole concert on two CDs. Also, they don't use the full 80 minutes of each CD.The sound quality of the CD is good but not great. It is fairly clear and has good dynamic range. But it does sound a little dead. The instruments do not sound true. On a good sounding CD on my stereo, the piano sounds like it is in the room. I don't get that effect with these CDs. I don't remember what the LPs sounded like. The performance is good but not great. I think it s a little over orchestrated in parts. Editing this down to shorter album might make it much better (but unfortunately they did not edit it down correctly). The first set/CD is much better. It is more of the band playing together. The second CD/set is more solos, some of which are not all the interesting (and I normally love solos). There is a great solo from Stanley Clark.

Unglaublich

CD
Grossartiger und fesselnder Livemitschnitt voller Details und Kunst bzw. Können der Musiker. Leider erst dieses Jahr entdeckt, nachdem ich die BluRay RTF Montreux 2008 genossen habe.
