Useless for flies
Flies and mosquitoes are supposed to be attracted to the same wavelength of UV - 365nm. The instructions state this unit is for both mosquitoes and flies. But it was useless at attracting house flies. We tried it in multiple different locations around the kitchen, with different lighting arrangements: high up in dark corners, against the window, in the middle of the room. Flies just flew past it. Even at night, just an occasional fly was zapped. However, it was very good at killing midges (hence two stars). The sound of the zap is like gunfire - no sleeping with this on in the room. Everyone in the house jumped every time it zapped something, it was so loud. But despite the loud bang, it only killed about 30% of the flies it caught - the rest were flung out, just stunned, and after several seconds flew away. In total, over a period of about a week, it killed a total of around 7 or 8 flies, a couple of moths, and several hundred midges. At any time there were perhaps 10 flies around the kitchen, so that gives an idea of just how frustrating was its performance. And the really short flex (~0.75m) is attached to the top of the unit, which is really inconvenient if you're putting it up high, because the weight of an extension topples the unit over.So we returned it after a week as not fit for purpose and got a refund.

I won't be eaten alive this summer! Spare bulb included.
I got this because it's nice to have a window or two open during the summer, but last year with the heat I thought the bugs were going to eat me alive so I've bought this to stop it from happening this year.So far it's only caught the smaller black bugs and a couple of houseflies, it makes a satisfying crack when it gets them, I expect as it gets warmer it'll start zapping more and more of the bugs that start to fly through the window trying to feast on me! The cat is also prepared for this years moth season and I hope the zapper will get the stuff she can't!Comes fitted with UK plug, instruction manual and spare bulb.

Extremely pleased
So pleased we now have 2, 1 in the lounge and 1 in the kitchen.A loud crack sound on operation now startles us less and the cats are not bothered yet clapping sends them off hiding. It collected a large amount of tiny insects which are the ones that feast on me and to which i have bad reactions so that is very good news.Easy to clean and we have one on a window sill and one on a unit, both effective.

Recommend for anyone who has a problem with flies in their property.
We have had a problem with rats from our neighbours premises. Unfortunately a rat died in an inaccessible area within our cavity. After the smell went we were plagued with flies. This device has been brilliant at zapping the flies as they appear. I have left the room in subdued light or darkness except for UV light. I can recommend this device for anyone who has a problem with flies in their property. It shows no mercy.

Does the job!
My girlfriend has a real MOTH problem, it was really getting her down as there appeared to be an endless stream of them!I bought this, and she left it on overnight in the kitchen and it has certainly helped! Every time a fly/moth flys in you hear a loud CRACK and the job is done. Comes with a spare bulb and a small cleaning brush.Quite decent.

It is just a weird lamp, does not even insult insects let alone kill them
This item is just not worth the money, it has not killed a single fly in 4 weeks, the fly's just ignore it and in fact would have to attend a training event just to work out how to get to the electrified bars. If you want a slightly weird blue lam then it is perfect, if you want it to kill flies then print off this review, roll it up and whack the fly's with it, that would get better results

Kills moths fine, flies not so much.
I dont know if its just the flies in my house, but I've had this 5 weeks now and it hasn't killed a single fly. I bought this because they seem to have really come out in the last few months, especially the kitchen. It kills moths fine and I guess it would kill mossies if they are attracted to the UV, but flies are almost repelled by this. They don't even fly into the power grid on accident after hours of it being on. Would not buy again.

Disappointment
I have had mine plugged in since I have bought it and I must say very disappointed has it not attracted any of the flies that I’ve had over the 24 hours in that room I have killed them myself with fly spray this morning. Waste of money I wouldn’t recommend.
