Ray Crisis-Confused and Dissapointed
This is going to be a somewhat hesitant review to some readers as some have covered this game pretty well.Graphics, gameplay, framerate, boss creativity?...not a bad thing to say about this game.If you liked RayStorm you'll like the gameplay style of RayCrisis...they're more in the fashion of Xevious and Raiden shooter games. What gives me a 2-star rating is the extremely short gameplay itself. How bad could it be? here's how it plays out...You pick your ship of course.Select your level composed of three sections. Each of these sections can be set to different environments so your level plays out in an order to make it different. This will also change the outcome of the boss you will encounter.Well play through the sections you'll encounter a boss in the first or second section. On the third section at some point you're transported to fight a boss ship (and it's always the same one).Destroy the boss and a screen appears showing your ship in vertical position...this strangely looks like you've beat the game already.ERROR messages appear all over the screen interrupting this moment and you get a message at how the planet is doomed or civilization is destroyed by the enemy...basically a bad ending. So I'm confused at this point at the relatively short gameplay and even recommending it.Sure you can mix the variations for different outcomes and it's a good polygonal shooter. But no matter how slice it it's the shortest video game I've ever encountered making it a very desired for more action and falling very short at that.2-stars!

Great "space shooter" game.
RayCrisis is a wonderful space shooter game that moves very quickly and is quite difficult. If you get vertigo or have poor depth-perception, it will be more difficult for you to play. However, the graphics are wonderful and show off just what the PS1 was really capable of, and the choices of playable ships make for a delightful replay value. Highly recommended.

old school fun
with that being said wish sony entertainment would revitalize old school side scrolling gaming. im sure those of you would agree for more fun and adventure side scrolling games than only first person shooter, online multiplayer games.what a drag.

Video game review
The game met my expectations and it was a game from a company that was hardly ever known. Also had several other works. Sad that it was gone.

Could have been better if it weren't so darn short
The Good: Great graphics and audio, does everything about shooters really wellThe Bad: Only 8 levels, the levels are really short, not much in varietyI'm not very good at older shooter and platformers, but I was pretty good at Raystorm. I got through 6 of the 8 levels without dying on my first try. Raystorm sports awesome graphics with tons of effects on-screen with no slowdown. Most arcade ports to the PS1 were not very good, but Raystorm is an exception. You have three different weapons at your disposal. Your regular gun, lock on missiles, and a special attack that clears all enemies on-screen. While this is pretty standard for all shooters Raystorm does it well too.Raystorm doesn't do anything spectacular, but it does everything you know very well. The biggest downfall are the short levels. You can beat them in about 5 or less minutes each and there's 8. You can blow through the whole game in less than an hour, but it's even more fun with a friend. You can pick this up on eBay fairly cheap so those shooter fans should take a look.

What a disappointment, what a disappointment...
I remember watching "Alien 3: Resurrection" at a theatre, expecting some quality equivalent of previous two movies; Alien, and Aliens. I left the theatre with bitter taste because the third installment of the Alien series wasn't even up there to be compared with the previous two movies. What a disappointment...I wouldn't be disappointed as nearly as I was disappointed that day if there were no such things as Alien, or Aliens. It was bitter disappointment because I was left with no choice but comparing with two great predecessors.Playing Ray Crisis gave me exactly same taste/feeling, which I felt when I was walking out of the movie theatre. First installment, Galatic Attack, also known as Layer Section in Japan, was an awesome shooter games. It was great enough to be compared to be those great shooter games out there such as Radiant Silvergun and Shienryu. It was beautifully drawn, each level was designed with lot of thought, even the title of each stage was inspiring, coupled with excellent music by Zuntata.Second installment, Ray Storm, which is an excellent game, not as good as the first one in my opinion, nevertheless, a GREAT game by today's standard. It incorporated more of 3D looking yet the graphic was BELIEVABLE, not those choppy graphic. The game play was also excellent, not as challenging as the first installment(but provided more than enough challenges), but surpassed Layer Section in terms of music and ending. The ending of the first installment was good, meaning it was better than other typical games where it only shows credit. However, Galatic Attack did something more than just showing credit. Moreover, Ray Storm, which has to be the BEST ENDING EVER for any shooter games. You gotta play the game to the end to see it for yourself. With the story scrolling up, with EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT MUSIC, it raised itself from just mere shooter game to something even more. Now, with all the good things said about first two games of the series... Trust me, I was dying to play this very game. When I played it through, I was left with this emptiness. I might have enjoyed it up to certain extent if I haven't played the first two installment. However, first two installment were way up there in terms of gameplay, graphic, music, ending, etc, Ray Crisis just does not live up to the 'legacy' of the series, just like Alien 3 the Movie.I don't want to get into the detail why I was disappointed, gameplay(what happened?), GRAPHIC(it looks worse then Ray Storm???), music(not intuitive), etc. I thought about how to describe this disappointment and came up with perfect description.NO 'SOUL' HAS BEEN PUT INTO RAY CRISIS, PERIOD.It's a decent game. It's good enough to be enjoyed. However, it's no near to be in same level with either Layer Section or Ray Storm. What a disappointment, what a disappointment...I really hate to see this one of my favorite installment ending with Ray Crisis, a mere decent game. I really hate to see that...
