I loved this volume best of all.In this series, maybe because the author has a committed readership, he is feeling free to take his story beyond "Light" Novel Land. We are now in the realm of the traditional novel, where people play their parts in society, while in their heads they cast about for ways to make those parts better—and to try to figure out what in the world the other players are up to!It's absorbing, particularly in this Japanese setting, where I've slowly learned from other sources there are LOTS or rules on how to behave, and people tend to obey them, in the process becoming ever more mysterious to each other.Read carefully as the everyday mysteries and challenges proliferate in volume 9. Because it's Japan, almost no-one ever speaks his mind frankly.

A journey of finding what is "genuine" in relationships. Wataru Watari's series My Youth Romantic Comedy is Wrong as I expected speaks to a deep need within all of us to self actualize. Wataru is very eloquent and modern in his speech while still being very easy to connect to. This is the English translation so I would be remiss if I didn't note how Jennifer Ward made this work accessible and relate able for the English speaking world. Her translation holds strongly to Wataru's intent, while bridging a lot of the more difficult gaps between Japanese and English that sometimes gets missed. while I write this review for volume 9, I intend for this to cover the entire series.

In page 154 the sentence "No, that's because you have no taste in men." is supposed to be "No, that's because the men you know have lousy taste."Page 143 "If this was enough to ruin it, then that's all it amounted to" is supposed to be "If it (the friendship between the three of us) were to break by something so trivial, then it wasn't that much to start with?"These incorrect translations ruins the understanding of the book and it's already hard enough to understand with all the subtext.
