Superb quality, Japanese build, unique.
I own compact binoculars by Zeiss, but wanted an even more convenient design for everyday carry. I have been impressed by a Vixen monocular that I own, as well as a Vixen zoom lens for my Pentax spotting scope, so I wanted to try the company again for my new need. Vixen of Japan comes through again!Ideal imaging through fully multicoated (but not ED) glass, a metal body, and impeccable attention to detail make this bino a winner for my purpose. I like the flat design for pocket carry. The eyepiece (interpupillary) distances adjust smoothly, and the focus knob is similarly buttery. When focusing, the eyepieces move in and out, as do the objective lenses; that is what you are seeing in the photos in this listing. There are no extendable eyecups, but that seems not to be an issue for me, a non-eyeglass wearer, at 7x magnification with these binocs. These do not have individual eye diopter adjustments, and that might be an issue for some users. My eyes are not identical, but at this relatively low power of magnification, again, no issue. The visual image is pretty darn good. It’s hard to quantify, but I can tell you these 7x17 produce images that I’d describe as crisp, sharp, color accurate, and well focused. They are dim in reduced light situations, and do best on sunny or cloudy days rather than at dawn or dusk, as you can imagine. They weight around 6 ounces, and feel substantial and solid in the hand. This style of binocular can be purchased by other manufacturers in plastic-housed versions with inferior glass and clunky design for one fifth the price of these Vixens, but those are toys and these are optical instruments. I find it a joy that such a flat design for easy shirt pocketing can feature such a substantial build and excellent view. These come with a case that appears well made and that closes with hook and loop Velcro...a case that smartly does not add bulk to this carry-everywhere in a purse design. It comes with a wrist lanyard. It does not have objective and eyepiece covers, so the case is important; fortunately, this case fits the need.Super pleased with this purchase. I’d recommend these over a Monocular if you will be viewing for over five minutes or so. Monoculars are excellent for EDC and quick peeks, these tidy Vixen binoculars are much more comfortable for longer viewing (graduations, theater, beach, casual birding, sports, etc). These are made in Japan. 🇯🇵 Perfect gift for self or others.Recommended.
