Advent Devotions for Busy Families

Nice bite-size stories with little ornaments to color for each day. Puts a meaningful Jesus-centered spin on common secular traditions. My elementary-aged kids enjoyed it. (Watch out for the St. Nick chapter if your kids believe in Santa -- just raises too many sticky questions!)

I really like the simplicity of this. We are enjoying the writings for each day. I did not give this 5 stars because I spent a lot of time and wasted a lot of paper copying the ornaments for each day. A suggestion would be to put all the ornaments at the end of the book, maybe on cardstock, so we could just tear the pages out and color them much easier.

Better than what is was looking for. We have been reading a story a day and doing activities to go along with it. We have three boys 11, 9 and 6, but this could be geared up or down based on age. We are not coloring the ornaments that came with, but that would be great for younger children. We went and looked at Christmas lights after reading the lights story, made cookies after the cookie one, random acts of kindness after the St. Nick story, made Christmas cards after the Cards one, etc. Great for family time and celebrating the true meaning of the season.

This was great. We used it daily as another book to go along with our Jesse tree/home school activities in December. Some of the sections I didn't incorporate, and I didn't use any of the enclosed ornaments you could color and copy, but instead had my kids create a scene on paper using each days lesson, and in the end they had a whole sheet that looked like a Christmas living room setting. I did angel wings with their hand prints, and they decorated an angel like that, and some items we did on another nativity sheet. Overall, it's a great book that tells where most of the traditions that we celebrate today come from, and overall that's what we used it for was a resource book.

We have tried quite a few Advent devotionals for our family and have never been totally satisfied but we have finally found a WONDERFUL devotional! These devotions by Laurie Kehler are excellent! They teach and celebrate in a way that interests adults and children alike! It is very special! This is the second year that we have used it. We really love it!

Truly a great devotion for busy families. Short, biblically centered and great analogies for younger kids (ex: Christmas lights are a good reminder that Jesus is the light of the world). Also offers some historical context.

Great devotional, specially for during Christmas. The kids enjoyed it as well as the little coloring options at the end of each devo. I found the book not just a great addition to the Christmas season but a great informational book about it too! Highly recommend it!

My kids really enjoyed making all the ornaments for the tree this year. The book was a really good way to point out the reason we have certain traditions.

This looks great. Simple to use, but good content and lovely ideas to focus the whole family in the run up to Christmas. Can't wait to start it.

You need a photocopier for most of the activities. The ideas are good but there is a lot of extra work, you can't just use it.
