Douglas Sky G Fly Rod Series

I’ve been reading about this rod as reviewed recently by Yellowstone Outfitters and admiring it since an epic fishing trip four months ago. I found it available at the same price in a shop not terribly far from home. The good folks at the shop set it up, loaded 5 weight line on my old Hardy reel, and let me try it in their pond. I’m sure it’s performance depends on what you compare it to, but it crushed the old fiberglass rod that I made some years ago just as graphite rods were beginning to appear. The Sky G is beautiful, strikingly lightweight, and puts the fly where I could only imagine before. I am so pleased.

I was excited to get the 9' 5wt rod direct from the factory. I've been reading great things about this fly rod. One of the best in 2021 when put head to head against other high end fly rods according to Yellowstone Angler's 5-weight fly rod review.Long story short, when I received it, some of the epoxy on one of the guides had come off right down to the thread wraps.UPDATE: After contacting Douglas Outdoors, they quickly responded and cross-shipped a replacement for the defective rod section and I had it in only 2-days, free of charge. Excellent, top notch warranty service.
