Windows 7 and DSLOA
I first played this game when it came out way back in the late early 90's. As an extension to the Dungeon Siege game, I found the game play most engrossing. Dungeon Siege 2 came out, and although a good game as well, it didn't have that same feel as D.S. or DSLOA. Fast forward to present. I found this game, at an amazing price I might add here on Amazon, and couldn't wait to download and play it. Here's the big 'but'......but I am running windows 7. It hadn't even occurred to me that there would be an issue playing the game as long as I changed the video configuration setting to Windows XP 2, which is the original setting this game plays in. I have now tried twice...today will be try number 3, to freshly download the game from the original discs and follow series of help idea's I have found on the web. There are many ways I have read that supposedly work; I've yet to find it. So far, and from what I've read, download the game to your windows 7; change the vdconfig to Windows XP service pack 2 after download; download the patch (3.1.1) which is free and readily available via a google search; then re-trace the originally ini.file with the same ini file name in Dungeon Siege onto the DSLOA game. (No, haven't figured out how to do that part just yet.)Is the game worth all this trouble? yes! Love the game, great long play and story line. I hope Gas Powered will follow suit and put out a exclusive Win 7 version soon, as I would buy it immediately. If you don't have a moderate to high skill set in operating systems and programs codes...wait till the game comes out for your specific system. It will save you frustration and time.Pamela Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna Expansion Pack

Don't be fooled!
I want to start by saying I'm a huge dungeon siege fan. I love the game and am currently waiting on my copy from another vendor. Do not buy this one unless you want just the expansion! I have to give it one star because I can't play just the expansion. The description states that it's the main game too, but look at the picture. It's not the main game, it's just the expansion. Pay the extra to someone else to actually get the game.

Wonderfull game
I purchased this game several years ago and played it for days, and it was great fun. i had to repurchase the game and play it again but I was worried about the game not working with windows 7 64 bit addition. Well, the game works just fine. A one reason why I like this game so much... no puzzles to solve, just hacking and slashing. The game does require a little thinking. I have not yet gotten to the expansion pack just yet.Dungeon Seige two is just around the corner too.

Good game but controls a little tough
I have played this game on and off a number of times now. It is a good game but the controls are a little tough getting used to.As you fight the baddies you have a tendency to keep clicking with the mouse, as in other RPGs. This does not cause you to attack faster or more violently. The attack controls are in little boxes in the upper right of the screen, Attack nearest - Defend...Clicking and pointing while in combat messes things up until you get the hang of it.Save the game before you go into actual combat in case you click yourself to death.I would recommend this game to people who like RPG and exploring. Works ok, so far, on Win 7 64Bit but get warning message that known conflicts exist.

Classic Game
I think there are enough reviews on this game to describe how fun it is, and addicting. Even though, lets face it, its very old school. But this is your typical, run-of-the-mill ARPG. No frills, just blood spills. I've played similar games such as Sacred, Sacred 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance (1 and 2) and various others, and they all have the similar trappings and window dressing that makes a good ARPG fun.I purchased this via Amazon through the vendor Select2Go. I almost didn't open the package to this game. The actual game packaging is completely different from the one shown in the picture. It isn't red. It doesn't include the tag line "Includes the original Dungeon Siege game" on the front of the box. And it also doesn't have 3 cd's. Mine was blue, from Ubisoft and contained only 1 DVD, with no mention anywhere on the packaging about it containing both the game and expansion. I had severe doubts, and almost returned this item. However, after searching on the net, I felt assured that the game did indeed include both versions, so I popped it open, installed it, and low and behold, the original and expansion were on my desktop. There was a huge sigh of relief. However, why the seller or Amazon is using this older image or misplaced image is beyond me. So, if you get a blue package (that says Explosive Ubisoft), that doesn't mention the game including the original and expansion...don't worry. You've got it. If you get a red package with 3 cd's (which is the current place holder image last I checked)...I have no clue what you just purchased. Maybe you got it, but its just a different package and set up, thats perfectly feasible. But apparently the expansion that was released for this game did include the original game as a bonus. These old school games, when re-released....can just be confusing at times. Have fun!

LOVE!
This is just the best game EVER! I had to buy it once more because I accidently broke my previous copy, and I was so happy with this product. It's just such an amazing game and I really think more people who are into RPGs should play it. It's realyl great action with a good story line and awesome characters. It also has an online gaming feature if you're into that.

Fun but uninspired, a little unbalanced
I was pleased to see this expansion of Dungeon Siege, as the original game had been fun. Trouble is there are too many annoyances to play this through to the bitter end. For starters, you constantly find spells that can't be used. Nature Magic is a skill that doesn't seem to ever increase in strength. My main archer had increased to level 10 while the secondary Nature Magic user was stuck down at 5 (and had started at 3 I think). The real trouble though is in the plot development and mapping. There's just no feedback to indicate where to go, so you find yourself going round in circles. There's a map which shows immediate surroundings, but that isn't labelled, and can't be zoomed out enough to get a clue as to where to go, or where you've been. The level of map above that does not show exactly where you are - it's too vague, just labelling which area you are in. The nature of the game is one where you are constantly prevented from going in any direction by trees, mountains and the like, forcing you to navigate round like it were a maze - this too is frustrating and compares badly with other games of this ilk.The choice of magic spells is very limited - the user interface puts two spells for you to quickly choose - but it's already very cluttered - you quite often click on a character accidentally. I would have liked:1) A better variety of magic spells available, automatically chosen according to circumstance2) Character use potions when necessary3) Signposts and in-game talking to prompt you in going a certain way.4) Character levels rise correctly for magic users.5) More of a sense of achievement for doing quests.6) Less junk treasure, and automatic picking up of gold. The armour and weaponry I had found in the first hour of game play was the same as I used several hours later, when I gave up.

Hack'n'Slash with magic. Ronseal (tm).
It's a pity that this game (as far as I have tried) will not work on Windows Vista or 7, so you'll need an older WinXP machine to play it.This game is old by now, but it is one of my top three of the old school basic gameplay dungeon(type) crawlers, with Diablo II and Nox being the other two. Don't even need to choose a single class per se, but if you focus there can be benefits. For the time, the graphics and sound were fine, but it is the well designed and refined gameplay that wins. Is it fancy? Not by todays standard, but it set a bar with functionality and options there were mysteriously crippled (I thought) in the sequel. This is the sort of thing that would be perfect in "Games for Laptops" range, as long as you have a pre Vista operating system.
