Exceptional soundtrack!
Season 4 has my favorite soundtrack of all five seasons. Unlike the other soundtracks, I don't find myself loving some tracks and skipping others. Season 4 of Queer as Folk was an emotional one and this reflects that. The mood is low key but multi-textured: it gets introspective, hopeful, sad, sexy, happy, and yes there are danceable tracks too. Somehow it does this seamlessly. There are some real gems here. Others have mentioned Cue to the Pulse: absolutely wonderful. There is also the cool and sexy Suede song "Attitude", the melancholy "Love of the Loveless" by Eels, and bitter sweet love song "Scream" by Ima Robot. The lower star reviews seem to be by people who were expecting the thumpa thumpa - and while there is nothing wrong with that, if you let go of that expectation, you may discover something deeper. More than any other soundtrack I find myself reliving the tender moments between the characters. The last track "Wonderful Life" by Black ends on a note of quiet but joyful optimism: everything will be okay. The characters suffer many challenges but, as Michael says about his beloved comic book heroes: "despite everything they survive". Perhaps I'm making this sound more down than it is - there is a lot of fun in these tracks too and I often find myself dancing. I've also had the thrill of discovering new bands to explore. I can't say much more other than recommend that you give this a listen. It's a rare treat to come across such a well-thought out album.

Buy the DVD series instead!!!!
The music is great as background for the DVD series but by itself it is monotonous and non descript. You would be much better off to buy the DVD series which is excellent and just enjoy the music for its background quality.

Mind is blown!
There was also a cute little picture album along with it, totally unexpected! Amazing songs! Listening to it over and over again!

A little better...but is IS a Wonderful Life.....
Okay, the fourth season CD. Well, they are harking back to the basics, in a way. The second season CD of Queer as Folk followed the trend set by the soundtrack of the British series by having all the songs segued into one long grind (and one song which never even used in the show....what a waste of CD space). The third season had two CDs, one a segued thumpa thumpa Babylong disc while the second one featured some of the less danceable tunes of the show.Onward to season four, where like the very first soundtrack, we get a eclectic mix here. The thumping sound of Babylon are here, along with ballads and yes, even one show tune!Overall, the music for the fourth season has improved...but I still questioned the choices made on which to include on the soundtrack. Some are good, some....not so good (surprised?)The very first track is the new theme: Cue the Pulse to Begin...but this version bear little resemblance to the one used in the show (no countdown..ONE TWO THREE....!)The second track Attitude virtually burst with attitude, which is followed by the swinging I'm The Main Man by Jason Nevins. However, the next several tracks were a bit undistinctive. Even though they have their own unique appeal, they turn out to be music that you turn on as background music....just like on the show. You know there is something that is being played...but ultimately its main purpose was to fill the silence, nothing more, and nothing less. Then came If I Were A Man by Andrea Menard, a bonafide gay show tune (or anthem)which is unlike anything else on the soundtrack and is totally out of synch from the soundtrack's numbness. It immediately make you take notice and is one of the best songs on the disc.Speaking of anthems, saving the best for last, is Wonderful Life by Black. It is a song that is as poignant as Badly Drawn Boy's The Shining, AND as powerful and re-affirming as Heather Small's Proud or Ultra Nate's Free. This single song ends the disc with an emotional and powerful wallop...and is probably the only one (except maybe for Andrea Menard's) that you will find yourself listen to repeatedly. The soundtrack was billed as featuring the most memorable music on the show...which I beg to differ. Once again, some of the best tunes are left out....like Junk Odyssey by ECT, You Come In Burned by the Dandy Warhols, Lemon Jelly's In The Bath.Ultimately, the music from the first season is still the best. This soundtrack may get a little boring and repetitive at times, but the last song, Wonderful Life, is worth buying the soundtrack alone.

Great volume in the series
Honestly, this cd is worth the price for "Cue the Pulse to begin" alone. As others have said, that right there should get you to buy this cd without hesitiation. But, there are other fantastic songs on this cd that are equally great and make this cd satisfying. It ends, for instance, with "Wonderful Life" by Black. I hadn't heard that for almost 15 years or so, when I first had the Black full length cassette, which had an equally awesome song on it called "Everything is Coming Up Roses" that got tremendous airplay here in SF. So, point being, it was great to see the song included here, and brought back great memories, outside of the fact that it's a song with a great message.Other songs on here...yes, others have mentioned, some are weaker than others. But overall, you get a great deal. Highly recommend this cd as something of a middle ground when you want something other than the constant thumpa-thumpa of Club Babylon.Enjoy.
