Excellent to understand the odds and change from a race to back game to trap your opponent!

The book isn’t that long and so the long introduction to the game itself comes across as ‘filler’. But once the actual instruction portion gets going, it’s worthwhile. I bought it used, so my bang for my bucks isn’t that bad.

This book starts a little fluffy -- I don't really need to read the rules again.The Big Problem: the Kindle edition on my iPad shows the "red" and "black" checkers with nearly identical colors. So I cannot read a game position and understand it. I'm returning the book.Nov.2012: I didn't return the book, although I tried. Sometime, there was an update that fixed the problem and now the images are fine! The joys of a digital, live edition. Thanks to the publisher.O

I've been playing a long time and had never studied backgammon strategy. This book is a great primer for learning more about the game. I found the opening moves section particularly helpful in developing both an offense and a defense. A little hard to understand at first, but stay with and the descriptions get easier and easier.

I liked the book in general but his method of showing moves requires detail concentration so in some ways it seems like a text book with a lot of details.

This book taught me a lot of great moves and helped me become a good player.

I do not question the excellent facts in this book. The problem is the difficulty reading and comprehending the text. Terms are used that are not adequately defined. After reading a section three or four times, I could finally understand the words. This book is not for beginners.

This books is great for a beginner or intermediate player. It covers the basics but also has great advice to improve your odds of winning. Great coverage of how to properly use the doubling cube.
