After talking with her and her cousin, we were made aware that she was being bullied in class by two other little girls. They only permitted her to play with certain dolls.We purchased this book, (along with other books), and we read it to her every night. She loves it! In short, this book affirms who we all are, and introduces that concept at an early age.We talked to the teacher and resolved this issue. We purchased a second copy for her class, and it is read regularly by her pre-school teacher to the entire class. It has become a class favorite. Her class is racially diverse, with 3 whites, 1 Hispanic (also white), 2 African Americans / blacks, and 4 Asians (1 from china and 3 from India). I was surprised that the school did not already have a similar book. My daughter (as all children) is perfect! ### ⭐⭐ Not what you think *by T***X on Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2019* I bought this book for my friends who just adopted a baby who is a different racial background than they are. I was hoping this book was about being okay with who you are no matter your skin color, but it’s not. It’s mostly, literally, about skin. And it’s only a few pages long. Lame. Richly diverse illustrations capture children and their families in various activities. Readers will notice that regardless of ethnicity, culture or physical ability, families interact and love the same. Children will also learn that skin has important function: “It keep the outsides out and the insides in.” All people have this in common. Skin presents obvious differences as well: color, texture, freckles, dimples, even goose pimples.Happy in Our Skin can create an easy opportunity to have some important conversations about race.
