For only the most dedicated of fans
Adds a small amount of backstory for dedicated fans of the film. The writing is acceptable, but not fantastic. The novelization adds some backstory to the weeks leading up the events of the film (including the severity of Dr. Weirs initial mental state), and some small, but important details that occur in the "other" place "beyond known time and space". These details may conflict with the readers original interpretation of the film. I would only recommend this book for dedicated fans looking for the full "Event Horizon" experience.

I never expected this to be so good
I didn't see the movie, but this book is way good. It's an excellent combination of science and fiction, with a lot of time-space information thrown in. The only thing is that I didn't get was the ending.

Great blend of horror and SciFi
This book takes place in a distant enough future where deep space travel is common and "wormhole" travel is cutting edge. The possibility of parallel dimensions bleeding over to ours with this kind of technology is the disturbing premise. It is basically a haunted spaceship story, with the possibility of ruining our universe with the escape of another dark dimension. As usual, the book is superior to the movie. Interestingly, the book was based on the movie not the other way around. The Horrible Place

Good
I have been a fan of event horizon ever since seeing the film in the 90s. This novel was exactly as expected. More or less the same as the film with some added detail.Good overall

but this is good. I may be slightly biased since Event Horizon ...
It departs little from the movie and is very well written. I haven't read any other movie novelizations, but this is good. I may be slightly biased since Event Horizon was the last movie my dad and I watched in the week before he died of lung cancer, but nevertheless this is well done.

Pages were falling out
The pages were falling apart, readable though. Had to super glue.

Better than the movie
I know the movie has hardcore fans who will defend its many flaws. For me, the flaws do not lie so much within the story as they do with Paul Anderson's direction, obnoxious jump scares and stingers, and the poor editing. The "cool" ambiguity always got on my nerves too. It does not automatically make a movie interesting when leaving so many open-ended loose threads. The novel ties those loose threads together and gives a much more satisfying explanation to the haunting of the Event Horizon ship (though why it doesn't affect Starck or Cooper is still not addressed) with not too unbelievable metaphysics. The ending is also much better, choosing a more thoughtful and scary tone rather than the B-movie monster trash ending of the movie. It's the perfect novel to read late at night with a spooky ambience video playing on YouTube and will make you long for a better cut of the film itself.

Much like the movie
Reading this novelization is an experience much like watching the movie. For most of its length, the story is spooky and atmospheric, but the ending fails to impress, even though it deviates slightly from the movie. Whether you leave the final revelation unspoken - as in the novel - or name it, as in the movie, it simply isn't as scary as what has gone before.
