Easy on the Ears!
The beautiful sound of the original Platters is easy to the ears. Great songs that may not have made the charts such as Remember When and Bewitched,Bothered and Bewildered are so enjoyable as is this entire CD. If you love the Platters or if you just like easy listening this is meant for you. I enjoyed songs I have never heard that they sing on this great CD. This was the days when you actually heard the lead singer and the words not drowned out by the band.

MISSING A LOT, & SOME SO-SO TRACKS, BUT WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE
Recommend you supplement this with PLATTERS THE SINGLES+ & PLATTERS MAGIC TOUCH ANTHOLOGY. Those packages contain about 45 tracks not included in the 8 CD package. Or you can wait on some record company to fill in those blanks: good luck on that one!

" They were the very best vocal group of the era
"The Platters!" They were the very best vocal group of the era. Their recordings of standards and new material back by David Carroll and the big, full-string section, orchestra was different, thanks to their manager, Buck Ram.Most importantly, however, was that operatic quality, tenor voice of the late Tony Williams. This CD box set is worth every cent.

8 classic albums!Classic music but it's missing some hits which I should have paid more attention to. I really wanted their greatest hits and even that particular album was missing a song I wanted. This has many many if their songs and I've fallen in love with all these songs I've never heard before. Can't hurt to have hours and hours of The Platters music.

Good value for the money and well - done, but I am very disappointed that Only You, The Great Pretender and several other significant hits are not included.

wonderful quality & value
Bought these discs as an update to my dad's Platters collection on vinyl. There are a lot of tracks here he's never heard before, and The Platters is his all-time favorite group.

He was facing the enormous difficulty of performing a non rock act in the emerging years of rock and roll when even singers like
I first saw the Platters in the film Rock Around The Clock about 1958. I was only 16 years old and on hearing the 'heaven sent'voice of the lead singer Tony Williams I was mesmerised. Coming up now for 72 I have heard a lot of singers but still none tomatch him. He was facing the enormous difficulty of performing a non rock act in the emerging years of rock and roll when evensingers like Frank Sinatra and his peers were having a lean time.I think it was only one or two acts of this musical revolution whooutsold the Platters, the gr,Williams as when he left over a pay dispute (today they would have given him the earth) the groupwas brought down to earth with a bang and disbanded shortly after. Williams formed a group called The International Platters and each of the many previous members formed various groups, all bearing the name Platters and all, including Williams graduallyfaded into obscurity. This 8 album set of 4 c/d's is the best of Tony Williams that is around today, the first discs 2 albums areThe Platters 1956 and The Platters volume 2 1956, they are magical bearing in mind the age and T.W. is Fantastic. Then we have The Flying Platters and the Flying Platters Around The World 1957 and 1958, then Remember When andReflections both recorded in 1959. The last albums are Life is just A Bowl of Cherries 1960 and Song for The Lonely 1962.The lead singer on the last C/d is a T.W. singalike because T.W. left in 1960. The new boy is good but not in the class of theoriginal. It is a sad legacy he left, owing to mismanagement or whatever, what should have been one of the most glittering careers in the history of music was left unfullfilled, I think with a genius producer like Jeff Lynne and our fantastically improvedrecording methods his voice would be echoing down the ages. God Bless You Tony Williams, (Died 20 Years Ago. R.I.P.

Great Songs
Plenty of songs to listen to from the past era, wonderful to listen to and a big variety to chose from September in the rain, I'll get by, Rainbow on the river. So many I haven't heard of until now. The Platters are great entertainment to listen to remembering the soft voices that can rock the boat when needed. This C.D. will keep me quiet for hours. Worth listening to at your own leisure in the twilight time. I rated this an A grade plus for all the different songs on all four disc that will keep you with a smile on your face or a tear in your eye. Enjoy!

Truly an alltime great group of the 50's.
I love these guys 7 having 8 early albums allows you to listen to them at their best. Best of albums are very good but if you need an insight as to how they progressed this is a great way to learn and besides nearly all their 'best of' songs are featured here for about the same price.
