Glowing With Intensity
I love Bardo Pond, and wish they would play NYC more often. This album, a collection of past Record Store Day EPs, is like a dream come true. It three discs with 6 cover songs, none under 12 minutes. It's hard to improve on Eddie Hazel, but "Maggot Brain" makes a great attempt, stretching out to nearly 22 minutes of flute and guitar-driven mind expansion. Of course Bardo Pond should be playing long versions of Pharaoh Sanders and Albert Ayler songs. "Music Is the Healing Force of the Universe" is particularly intense. And I just had to laugh when the Velvet Underground's "Ride Into the Sun" finished. Just awesome. Ride into the sun, indeed!

EPIC: 3 cd box set of US psychedelic band playing long cover versions
Bardo Pond, if you have never heard of this American psychedelic rock band, started around '91 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and have produced a huge backlog of albums and projects. This is a collection of the Fire Record [London] albums from 2013 to 2015: Rise Above It All , Looking For Another Place and Is There a Heaven? - all produced in individual album cardboard sleeves which fits into a presentation cardboard box. If you like your psych rough, exciting and full of energy this compilation is a great way of getting those 3 albums for a good price. Each album has a 2 very long tracks and feature covers of Funkadelic, Pharoah Sanders, Roxy Music, Albert Ayler, Brian Eno and The Velvet Underground. If you like Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3 and My Bloody Valentine I think you'll enjoy this. One music site described Bardo Pond as having "lengthy, deliberate sound explorations filled with all the hallmarks of modern-day space rock: droning guitars, thick distortion, feedback, reverb, and washes of white noise." Apparently Bardo Pond are a tape-friendly band who encourage fans to make recordings of their shows, I've not seen them live nor come across any of their taped performances, but with their studio albums sounding live and raw I dont particularly have the urge to listen to a bootleg - but I would love to see them live!
