Best for 1st year residents
Concise, visually appealling and nicely organized, this manual is better aimed at the first year Anesthesia resident that is still setting their foot into their chosen specialty and want to read an easily digestible book that explains a lot of the basic key points of the drugs, anesthesia techniques, major disease states and overall features of the operating theater related to the specialty. There is no in depth information from articles, drug dosages are sorely missing. But, as a quick refresher book, I think it was really well written and you can't beat the pleasing artwork.

Don't expect TOO much
This is a wonderful little anesthesia booklet. It's less than 90 pages of text albeit the pages are large. The diagrams are superb and the color scheme is great.Explanations in this booklet are very much brief and to the point and very easy to understand for undergraduate science students or above. They (the writers) explain the basic concepts of an issue, such as pain management and then offer some very superficial (but important) direct tips/understanding of the problem, where each class of pain reliever works (wonderful diagrams for this), and the major side-effects.What I'm trying to say here is, the book takes an anesthetic topic, tells you the main points of a problem, the main types of solutions you can employ, and what issues/side-effects to look out for when employing the solution. It's this kind of three pronged approach throughout the book on almost every topic. This is not a book to get detailed pathophysiological explanations of a problem, nuanced qualities, and rarely encountered problems out of.It's much more practice than it is theory.

Anaesthesia for us dummies.
Do you have questions about anaesthesia? Are you a person with NO deep knowledge about medicine?Do you wish to know more about anaesthesia but do NOT have a doctor at hand to explain it to you?Well... this book if for you.Designed to give us a clear, concrete and SIMPLE view on anaesthesia, this book is an excellent choice. It will explain all the basics - what it is, different types, preparation of the patient, what happens during anaesthesia, problems, issues... and everything a person may want to know about anaesthesia but cannot ask a doctor. The book never gets too technical - on the contrary, it explains with impressive clarity and using simple language the world of anaesthesia - so you can understand it. This book is perfect for people who have gone OR will go through anaesthesia as well as relatives and parents of patients. It is also a great book for youngsters who may have a natural interest in medicine. The text is great, the graphics, drawing and diagrams are five stars.RECOMMENDED!!

As a "medical consumer" (AKA patient), this is exactly the kind of information I was looking for.
After a recent inpatient surgery, I suffered excruciating pain and severe nausea and vomiting (to the point that I had to be hospitalized).Since I had the same surgery (albeit under general anesthesia) twice, two weeks before and did not have any of these problems, once I recovered I suspected that something had changed in terms of anesthesia during the procedure and post-op drugs. Everyone at the hospital kept saying: "No, no. It's not the anesthesia." But I am super drug sensitive, something doctors neither seem to understand nor take seriously, and I knew that the only variable in all of this was the drugs (type, quantity and when administered). After verifying what I was given in the third surgery, it was clear that it WAS the anesthesia. At that point, I wanted to educate myself on other aspects of anesthesia. This book, which is written in a way that seems to be more consumer friendly and educational than a truly medical book, really helped. In my opinion, if you want to make a truly informed decision about surgery (or other procedures) that require anesthesia, it's worth your time for you or your patient advocate (not the hospital one but the friend or family member who serves as yours) to review the contents of this book. You may learn more than you want to know, but...better to know than become a statistic. That's my thinking. At the very least, you will be able to ask more pointed and relevant questions (although again, you tell doctors things and they still seem to either forget or ignore what you said...a real concern. Maybe you need to text them everything to get their attention.)in advance of any procedure (where you have that option). It can also help you better understand the process and, hopefully, reassure you on some levels. (Any professional medical doctor will tell you that ALL procedures and any type of anesthesia have risks. No matter how minor or major the procedure.)I wished I'd had the opportunity of reading this before my procedures. This book isn't for those who belong in the "I don't want to know about it" group. It's for those of us who want to educate ourselves, work better with our doctors to ensure accurate and safe procedures and better understand what is involved with the administration of anesthesia, which is a key, if not the key, componenet of a procedure.I think this book belongs on the bookshelf in any home where an adult or child lives. Because you never know when you'll need to know this information right away!

I found it very easy to work through and it has been extremely helpful ...
As a student ODP, anaesthetics can be quite confusing and in-depth. This book gives a very clear over-view without trying to cram too much information in. I found it very easy to work through and it has been extremely helpful with my course work so far.

Amazing summary of Knowledge
This large format booklet is a surprise at how much it manages to include. It ticks all the boxes, and is a great review of the information required by a newby to the art and science of Anaesthesia. It is linked to a companion Website which allows the student to attempt to answer questions on several aspects of each chapter, and then reveal model answers, and also a set of Multiple Choice Questions which appear to be sensible and well aimed at the tyro.. I see no value for the general public, but great value as a tool for both students of medicine, nursing and allied professions, and beginners. One thing I fuind odd, is the page format. I believe this could have been useful in a smaller format that would fit into a white coat or blazer pocket, this book certainly won't as it is in A4 format. Then again, in these days of infection control, maybe no one wears white coats or blazers!
